Phantasia X, no question. The updates to the battle system were a long time coming.

No more spells pausing the battle. Phantasia X gets a huge yes for me.

I have played both GBA and PS1 versions all the way through, and I have to say the PS1 version was so very far superior to GBA. Everything was better, graphics, sound quality, music quality, controls, 3D visuals in some places, and of course voiced dialogue and skits was a nice touch too. I'd love to play the Phantasia X version, but it doesn't have a translation patch sadly. :/

If you've already played both GBA and PS1 versions then you should get the Phantasia X version. There's literally no difference aside from aesthetics, the slight changes and battle and the new character which really doesn't add much to the plot.

There's a new character?

Rhondoline. She's only temporary each time she joins and adds barely anything to the plot. She's mostly there to help tie into NDX.

I've played GBA and X and X is definitely the better of the two in terms of battle speed/fluidity. But there is one thing the GBA version has over the PS versions: sidequests. Having to do the extra dungeon twice to get everything wasn't very fun in the PS versions nor was the impossible final puzzle in Shadow's Cave. I think Absolute Zero had to completely rewrite the clues for it to be remotely possible to figure out. Lucky me I played it in Japanese and had to Google the answer. Also the last part of the elven bow quest was a tedious TIMED forest maze on PS1, whereas the GBA changed it to a story event.

ToP X is so far the most refined version of them all. It's tough to choose, because I have a certain level of nostalgia for the original version and prefer its simplicity but X is better to play, and there is more content in the other versions. Would love a complete remake of the game but that would be a bit silly.

I've only played the PSX version, and love it, but I'm interested in trying the PSP version once the translation for it is finished.

Does anyone know if there is an English walkthrough for the PSP version? Sorry if this has been asked already.

Phantasia X for sure. Combos are possible, faster battle speed, no pausing during spell casting and is region free on PSP. Also, you can use a PS1 version walkthrough and aside from one puzzle in the game be fine. If anyone wants any help with playing Phantasia X let me know.
