Welcome to Nostalgic City! The game where we post a bit of our childhood and see if someone else remembers what you're talking about! The game is simple, post something from your childhood and comment about it. The next poster than must post their memories about what you've posted and then talk about something from their childhood; a classic forum game structure. We hope that you will remember something nostalgic during the participation of this game. Without further ado, let's begin! We are in Media Street, so everything posted must be related to a piece of media (TV, Music, Video Games, Movies, News, anything media related~) Nostalgic Memory: Spice Girls- I was 5 or 6 when they started to hit it big. I recall myself even remembering the lyrics of one of their hits until I eventually forgot about them due to lost of interest or being scared about what other kids thought of me. I've recently did some research and it's that song Wannabe, and after hearing it the lyrics start playing through my head again. Make it stop. xD As much as I am embarrassed to admit this, they made a decent hit in my childhood for me to at least remember them. xD

Oh, Spice Girls. I remember them. They were really popular back when I was 7. I distinctly remember hanging out in the girls' bathroom with some female classmates as they chattered away about how awesome they were. I remember not really getting what the big deal was about them, and also finding their names pretty strange. Other than that, I don't think they really crossed my mind terribly often.
Uhh... let's see.
Tamagotchis. I got a Tamagotchi for Christmas 1998 and pretty much thought it was the coolest thing ever. My sister and I actually got it in conjunction with a Gameboy and some games, but I distinctly remember thinking the Tamagotchi was way neater. i spent a lot of time on it... the thing was a demanding little POS. Then it disappeared one day, and I was devastated. A few months later, it resurfaced up under the couch cushions, and my joy at rediscovering it was quickly crushed when I was informed by my Tamagotchi that I had done a terrible job taking care of it and it had flown back to space :'D
edit: for some reason I wrote "joke" instead of "job"

I remember those things, Me and my sisters each got one for Christmas long ago. All I can remember about mine was that it was always hungry and eventually died. I'm way better at taking care of real pets :S
Dial Up: One of the worst things from my childhood. The annoying dial up sound stills haunts my dreams today. I can remember going online on the old Windows 95 and waiting like 5 minutes for it to connect and like 10 minutes for each page to load. Thank goodness that's over XD

Ah, the horrible memories of dial-up. It's impossible for me to forget those early days of internet and, of course, the unholy noise it makes when connecting to the internet. On top of that, because there was only one phone line in the house, I had to constantly steal the phone line and use it for the dial-up connection. I got in trouble for that. Power Rangers: (Nostalga thanks to Zelar's sig. xD) Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers had to be the peak of my childhood, handsdown. All of the action scenes, though cheesy and fake to me now, really appealed to me as a kid. I used to watch the show every Saturday when it aired in the 90's. I would record it on tape so I could watch it over and over. And it was probably my first exposure to METAL with the awesome theme song. I remember going to ToysR'Us one day with my dad to get one of the megazords, I believe I had the White Ranger's space shuttle thing or something like that and my brother had the megazord with all of the 5 Rangers' parts put together. I was really into PR, of course, until it went downhill after about the 5th season I think, I don't remember. But anyway, that was a really cool part of my childhood.

Ah, yes. Power Rangers. If you want to relive the nostalgia, there are free streaming episodes on its official website.
I remember that I owned the original Megazord toy, but was lost to history. Furthermore, I think the local network that aired the original MMPR also aired PR Zeo and Turbo. Recently, they've also aired Wild Force, Ninja Storm, Dino Thunder, SPD, Mystic Force, Operation Overdrive, and Jungle Fury. Man, what's taking them so long to air RPM, now that PR Samurai is on the horizon?
Now for my object of nostalgia.
Boy bands. Just about the same time when the Spice Girls hit the big time (I was in late grade school / early high school back then), there come the Backstreet Boys, N'Sync, Boyzone, and their ilk. I used to diligently watch MTV (the SE Asian/Philippine version before it degenerated in the late 2000's) and I grew up singing their tunes (and even once owned one of Boyzone's albums). Fortunately, I was also absorbed into 90's Philippine rock, so I was immune to the sometimes gay-ish vibes they gave off (RIP, Stephen Gately).

To be honest, the only thing I really ever remember about boy bands was the parody song "Which Backstreet Boy is Gay?" I've never been into pop music, and I was kind of young when they were popular anyway.
Beanie Babies. I was really into pretend play with stuffed animals when I was a little kid, so these were a real hit with me. My first one was Flip the white cat, though I remember the cougar, blue jay and robin being my favorites. I used to constantly hassle my fast-food-loathing mother to take me out to McDonald's for Happy Meals when they were having their Mini Beanie Baby giveaway. My friends and I would pretend those ones were the kids of the regular-sized Beanie Babies.
Ah, good times. I still have all of mine in the basement of my house.

I remember having beanie babies (or at least I think they were beanie babies). The first one I got was a rainbow-colored goat that I named Joat. I pretty much cherished it as a pet and let it sit on the TV while I played video games. I had stuffed animals as well. I think I still have this big rat dressed in cheese pajamas that I called Cheesy. It had a little zipper on its back that I used to hide my money in from time to time.
LEGOs: Legos was the old Minecraft back when I was around 10-12. I would build ships, buildings, among many other things. I had a huge bucket of legos and imitation legos that I dumped out on the living room floor and spent hours playing with. I remember a cat peed on my legos once, and they still reeked when they were washed. I wasn't very happy that day. Anyway, legos were pretty fun to play with (except when you hurt your fingers pulling two stuck pieces apart).

LEGOS? Whatchu talkin' bout foo. Legos are still IN! REAL MEN PLAY MINECRAFT IN REAL LIFE!
lol, had a bunch, there are still about one million and one of them in boxes in my basement. Couldn't get enough of them, and I liked ignoring the instruction manuals.
Children's TV Programing Who doesn't remember watching loads of mind-numbing educational programs featuring brightly colored anthropomorphic animals sing and dance? Good times. . .

fff legos. They were the worst things ever to step on. Anyway, children's programming. I wasn't actually a big TV watcher as a kid (and am not to this day), but I apparently liked Barney enough to have a Barney-themed party for my 2nd birthday. I usually watched Cartoon Network if I watched cartoons at all. Now, for mine (wasn't clear before, I think): Ren and Stimpy. I haaaaaaaaaated this show. It disgusted and scared me as a little kid, and if I happened upon it while watching TV, I would immediately switch the channel. I mean, talk about a gross show :/

Oh Ren and Stimpy! I don't remember much about the show but I do remember it being digusting. I watched an episode or two with my sister and I started wondering why it ever got far.
Care Bears: Those teddy bears with the stars and hearts and stuff on their tummies. They even had a movie.

They had a movie? I remember girls in my class carrying them along all the time when I was younger. I actually found my sister's bear a few months back.
The old Zelda Cartoons: Most of you have probably heard of the "excuse me princess"... We watched all of them with my brother and thought they were great at the time. I doubt anyone can say they hated a cartoon series when they were little.

I'd never actually heard of the Zelda cartoons until YouTube Poops became popular. I've never watched the cartoons, but I don't have a good association with them... YouTube Poops always annoyed the hell out of me.
Neopets! I loved Neopets as a kid. The pets, eh, whatever, they were just OK and I never bothered feeding them, but the games were fantastic. Turmac Roll, Bull's Eye, and Pyramids were my sh*t. Even now, every couple of months, I go on and play a few games of Pyramids.
