Since it's good to broaden your horizons and discussing music is fun, I figured we could all swap recommendations in this here thread. No incredibly specific formatting is necessary, just name the band/artist and a few songs you think people should check out. All genres are welcome, of course. Feel free to make additional posts in case you think of more recommendations later. I'll start off with two bands I listen to a great deal: Animals As Leaders - Guitar-driven instrumental music. Leaning on the progressive, while shifting between clean mellow licks and heavy djent-like riffs. Recommended tracks: Air Chrysalis, The Woven Web, Nephele, On Impulse. Deadlock - Melodic death metal. In my opinion, these guys pull off a masterful balance of brutal, guttural verses and soaring, almost pop-like choruses. The contrast between the male and female vocalists is beautiful. Really talented musicians all around. Recommended tracks: Htrae, The Arsonist, Virus Jones (Sudden loud logo splash at the beginning. Headphone users beware,) Martyr To Science (The actual song starts suddenly at 1:10. Headphone users beware.)

Never heard of 'Animals As Leaders' but liked Nephele and On Impulse a lot, definitely going to check out more of them. As for my recommendation, it would be Critical Unbalance by 埼玉最終兵器 & Aether; whenever I'm playing a fighting game or Tales, this album always gets me hyped up (and most of the time I play better in the process lol). My favorite track is Ghostly Eyes, but the whole album is golden. EDIT: The genre of my recommendation is Metal.

Listening to it now. Up to Lunatic Princess, and I'm really liking it so far.
EDIT: Gone through the entire thing, and it's a good one. Thanks for posting, think I'll add this to my library.

Murder By Death - Genre: Indie rock, folk rock, alternative country, Americana. Described as "the sonic equivalent of No Country for Old Men," if you like Ennio Morricone and western thrillers you should check this band out. Standard rock set with cello and Johnny Cash-like vocals. These guys have made a career out of theme albums, with haunting lyrics depicting outlaws on the run and a genuine, bittersweet side of death. Recommended tracks: Good Morning Magpie, Rumbrave, The Big Sleep, Lost River.

I'm rather big on jazz and derivatives of that. Active NEETs is probably one of my favorite doujin bands at the moment, they do a lot of really awesome jazz arranges. www.youtube.com/watch?v=_HI7C2U6VY8a recent favorite of mine, a cover from the KanColle game.

I didn't really listen to/like any specific music when I was younger so I just recently have actually started to listen to music. That being said this thread is more that welcome, since my tastes rarely match with my other friends. I really enjoyed the Critical Unbalance and that jazz piece is somehow very familiar. I'll give Animals as Leaders another go after I get proper headphones, they sound horrible on my cheap ones (literally hurts my ears). I've not picked many bands that I consistently enjoy, so I'm just going to recommend individual songs: The National: Exile Vilify. "haunted, piano-lead ballad" -Paste, fitting description. The National is one of the few bands not completely related to geek culture that I enjoy. Jake Kaufman & Tommy Pedrini: The Impresario. The Opera scene from FFVI heavily inspired by Bohemian Rhapsody. One of the gems from OCremix projects. Also, just for the sake of Tales music: Sixto Sounds's Go the Distance. Electric Violin, Guitar Miracle of Sound: Fires Far. Dark Souls 2 inspired original doom metal-ish song. Miracle of Sound does a lot of songs based on video games/movies so safest bet would be listening to the songs from the stuff you are familiar with. The music itself isn't the best stuff out there but MoS manages to nail the atmosphere of the games, which makes his music very varied. I'm sorry for being so game music-focused. Most of the stuff I listen to these days is video game soundtracks. I do listen some mainstream stuff as well but I don't think it's worth mentioning here.

I don't know what they did different, but it's significantly better than any other OCRemix album, whose tracks are typically hit-and-miss for me. My favorites aside from The Imrpesario are Demon, Fiend & Goddess by zircon and Sixto (Keith Emerson version of Dancing Mad) and A Fistful of Nickels by zircon, XPRTNovice, Jillian Aversa, and Jeff Ball (Ennio Morricone version of Shadow's theme). I also mostly listen to game soundtracks, so no worries. Any favorite game composers, out of curiosity?

It's a shame he was too busy with Necrodancer to do Isaac Rebirth. The music is the one thing that's lacking in that game compared to the original.

DiVOID - J-Rock. Two of my friends creating original music, starting up in their own place and producing independently. divoid.bandcamp.com/album/sakurasouTwo songs the singer wrote before joining his friend. The first song has a more metal/aggressive feel, while the second song is more of a slower ballad with strong progression. divoid.bandcamp.com/album/mothTheir first single together as DiVOID; a high energy and melodic rock song.
