Lucky Star: see the life of 4 average japanese girls as they talk about japanese coulture and hang out doing everything most normal teenage girls in Japan would do. Unless you count the less-than-normal antics of Konata Izumi, the hard core Otaku with three friends who don't understand her passion for anime and video games. A good comidy show with LOTS of random anime refrences.

Baccano-- It's a bit bloody and the first episode is confusing, but it's freakin hilarious/awesome. A good way to get the feel of the show is to just look up the theme song~ www.youtube.com/watch?v=oUjqlVt6y2Abest sequencing ever! Plus, how can you NOT love a show with a character named Jacuzzi Splot?

D.Gray-ManAllen Walker is an exorcist in a late 19th century. Exorcists use the power of Innocence, a material used to fight Akuma. The Millenium Earl uses the Akuma to search and find the 109 pieces of Innocence scattered throughout the world and destroy as many as he can. It is the exorcists' duty to fight the Millenium Earl and his Akuma, and find accomodators, people who can use the Innocence. As Allen joins the Black Order, he discovers more about the Millenium Earl and Innocence. Sadly the series tends to go on hiatus all. the. time. and went from a weekly manga to a monthly manga

GintamaPlot Summary (taken from ANN): Edo-period at Japan suffers a big cultural shock. First, the aliens invaded the earth, overpowered the nation’s government, disbanded carrying swords for the once proud samurais. moreover; these aliens took the people’ jobs and are currently running a sweatshop using them as laborers. going with the flow, Sakata Gintoki, an enigmatic vagrant samurai whose personal trademark is not only his naturally permed silver hair but also his love of anything sweet and addiction Shounen Jump is making a life out of this chaotic era. He is self employed in a do-it-all shop named Yoruzuya Gin-chan who offers any job for any amount of money. Their jobs range from searching lost kittens and saving the world. Sakata Gintoki is a samurai living in an era when samurais are no longer needed. To add to his troubles, oppressive aliens have moved in to invade. Gintoki lives with Kagura and Shinpachi, taking on odd jobs to make the world a better place...and to pay their rent. I really recommend this if you're into funny stuffs. Lots of parodies. XD Of course it does have its serious moment...which is badass.

Super Robot Wars: Original Generation: The Inspector - [Ongoing, 9 episodes as of posting, subs released on Sundays] Okay, so, giant robots. They do awesome things. Really, really awesome things. All the time. Stuff like awesome attacks, long-awaited reveals, and dramatic close-ups. It is everything that is awesome about the SRW games compressed into an actually good anime (The last two were not so great) directed by a guy who does nothing but direct things that would be cool in SRW. Oh, there's also some fleshy fanservice and some alright characters, but it's all about the steel beauties. If you don't like this show, I don't like you. No, you don't need a plot description, that shit's for suckers. Play SRW OG if you need some context. If my articulation on this point is bad, it's because it's just that enjoyable. Every week, they pull out another long-awaited sequence and it's basically everything SRW as an anime should be.

If I may recommend: "Densetsu no Yuusha no Densetsu" or, "The Legend of the Legendary Heroes" as its been translated, And please don't be put off by the redundant title. Sadly =( that's just what puts people off the most despite it really being an awesome anime, and perhaps, one of the best of 2010. The anime is based off of a 2002 Light Novel by Takaya Kagami, and will run for 26 episodes. Trailer 01, Trailer 02While the first episode mainly served as an introductory episode to introduce the characters and current plot, it only gets better after that. First of all, meet Ryner Lute (Jun Fukuyama), your leading character, a magician of Roland, who is partnered up with Ferris Eris (Ayahi Takagaki), a beautiful, emotionless, (also arrogant), insanely powerful swords woman on a mission to find the "Hero Relics" scattered all over the country. They were dispatched by Sion Astal (Daisuke Ono), the current young Hero-king of Roland. Sounds generic, right? It only gets better after that... Actually, I dare anyone to watch the first 3 episodes and see if they'll drop it. Well, here's a bit of a spoilerish clip from episode 3. Warning, it is quite gruesome. Clip from episode 3 ...It really takes off after episode 3 with lots of complexity and twists and turns. There are some humor, but the story is a lot more intriguing. - The anime shows two sides, from Ryner's adventures to Sion's political story: Sion is a young king who seeks to create an idealistic peaceful world, but he finds himself having to make a choice that conflicts with his own philosophy and is troubled by that, but he shoulders everything as a king should. Ryner on the other hand, has gone through a lot all his life--really he has. Loneliness, sorrow, pain, he's gone through it all and therefore wears a mask of indifference as if he doesn't care much of anything, but really he does (for everything around him--he loves everything and everyone near him), but ironically, he himself is a threat to them. Ferris, who, although, sadistically beats and teases Ryner does well to defend and stay by his side when necessary. Though, imo, Ferris is better portrayed in the Light Novels than anime. - So anyway, I highly recommend this series most especially if you are a Code Geass fan. And also for the Graces peeps out there as there are strong parallels between Densetsu trio and Graces trio... As for soundtrack, all I have to say is: The music is beautiful.Ceui is wonderful and I am deeply in love with the second ending song by Ayahi Takagaki. - And if anyone is really interested, there are 4 Light Novels: The Legend of the Legendary Heroes, The Legend of the Great Heroes of Legend, the Legend of the Legendary Heroes Anyway, and the Legend of the Black Fallen Hero, the latter two are side-stories. As well as 4 on-going manga'. And also, there's a game for the PSP based off of the first 3 light novels... You can read the light novels here. As for the anime, if you live in the US you can watch it on Funi youtube channel. But, it may be better to download a higher quality version as Funi' version can be too dark and quality lacking. The animation is really top-notch.

Shakugan No ShanaNote: I use the Japanese terms/version of people's names here, so don't be confused if you read about it on Wikipedia, which uses the version of the English dub. Every life form consists of Power of Existence, which is shown as a flame-like energy source. Creatures called Tomogara steal this power, effectively killing a life form, including humans. But they don't just die, they disappear in the memory of every human as well - that's the reason nobody has found out about these creatures. Aside from that, it also threatens the balance of the world. Flame Haze, fighters who are guided by creatures (King of Guze), are fighting against the Tomogara. The anime starts at the point when a boy called Sakai Yuji is getting involved into a "gathering process" of the Tomogara. A Flame Haze called Shana is rescuing Yuji, but must tell him that his life would end soon anyway: He is a torch, a remnant of the power that has already been sucked out of him. Once the power is depleted, he'll cease to exist and everyone he knows will forget about him. The first episode may be a bit confusing and look like your usual anime, but give it a chance and watch at least episode 2 to 6 - it's quite fascinating. But it's not just the setting, it's also about character development. If you don't mind some minor spoilers, go ahead. Shana really is a kid at the beginning of the show. Being a girl who was chosen by a King of Guze early in life, she may understand and accept the whole supernatural stuff, but has next to no experience with social contact with other people. As a result, she is totally inexperienced with "special feelings" also known as love. She was neglected human contact on purpose so she would become a proper fighter, but things change and almost cost her her life. When she and Yuji start to get along, she feels weird and can't concentrate in battle - she doesn't know that it's her feelings for him. When she starts to accept this, she gets stronger and slowly starts to change for the better. There's another extreme found at the end of season 1: A person which I'll refer to as "the maiden" at the moment, is the definition of cold. If it wouldn't be for the flashback shown, you'd think she has no soul. She tries to kill Yuji - twice - which thankfully doesn't work. Still, it's one of these characters you'll hate for the rest of the season. She starts to change in season 2, but in season 1 she really is cold. The only other character that could surpass her attitude is Neeba from The Tower of Druaga. Season 2 is rather normal since the universe is already fully explained, but it's still good if you liked the first season. Finally, here's a trailer for you: Click me!btw, there's also a movie of it, but watch it after the anime of possible.

Royal Space Force: Wings of Honneamise
Now available in Hulu, both the subbed and dubbed!
Back in the 90s/early 2000-ish, I saw this on an anime magazine, and had always been curious about this anime. Flash forward late 2012, finally saw it in Hulu and... I can't believe how much this anime completely blew me away, despite being made in 1987. Throughout that month, I watched it around 7 or more times without getting sick of it. Heck to watch the opening and closing credits, the music, the *SPOILERS* near the end, as well as the buildup to it... gave me a tear on my eye on how awesome this anime is.
This made it more clear to me that I never lost interest in anime - I just don't like the ones I see today.

So! Maybe not the thread to do it, but whatever.
My run through Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood is almost at a close. Does anyone have any suggestions for similar anime I might pick up? Serious, dramatic anime with a more mature plotline's more my style. I've heard Stein;s Gate is good... are there any others? Stuff that's been dubbed would be preferable; I'm not a huge fan of subs.
