It depends~ If I'm by myself I'll be Presea so I can bash stuffs... But whenever I'm with my friends they're Sheena and Zelos or Lloyd or Kratos so... I'm either Genis or Raine. Generally Genis.

I'm playing the PS2 version right now actually. I generally play as Colette and if not, I go as Sheena, Presea, or even Regal.

Well my dad plays Lloyd and I play Raine.
:3
Weird... and I didn't know how to use healing artes at first so we ended up with Raine having full HP and everyone else dead XDD

I usually play as Presea, though I can play as any character except for Sheena. When I'm playing with my friend(s) I usually play as Raine, because we tend to play on the hardest difficulty, and the healer AI isn't good enough for that.

During the entirety of the game I stuck close to these four characters as not only did their personalities interest me, but I adored their fighting styles respectively.
Genis - Your typical mage of all the elements, and my typical choice for pretty much any RPG if there isn't a Magic Swordsman, and yet even when Kratos came on the team, I found no reason to switch. Having fun learning new spells was all I needed.
Sheena - Let's face it, her 'SLAP, SLAP, SLAP, SLAP, SLAP, BOOM' technique for fighting can get old pretty much after the asgard human ranch, but for some odd reason because it is Sheena I'm playing with, I can't tire of her fighting - if it were anyone else I might give up..
Zelos - And here comes the Magic Swordsman that actually made me drop Genis (temporarily, of course!). He really wasn't much different from Kratos and I couldn't see why I like fighting with him, but I did. Zelos, you still stupefy me as to why I love fighting with you, but cannot find the necessity to play as Kratos. I will never know..
Regal - The widely known 'under-appreciated' character of the team, and the only reason I can think of for that is because he comes into the team where the audience has already become accustomed to the team, even Zelos and Presea as Zelos fills the void of Kratos and Presea is a cute face that delivers insane damage. Even with his under-appreciated status, I still like Regal, a lot. Not only does he have a wide range of moves that nicely give Regal a lot of leg room to fight with, but even his regular attacks offer decent fighting for when he runs out of TP - his moves suck up far too much for my tastes.. Honestly I love him to death, I just wish he had a unison attack with someone that's not in the PS2 remake...

^ Ditto'd. I tend to go for easy fighters with big combos.
I recently tried using Presea and occasionally Kratos (or Zelos), but they move too slowly for me; and I only use Colette/Sheena/Genis for their hi-ougis. Does that count? XD

Well Having logged over 1200 hours of Symphonia, I've made the time to play as every character often.
Zelos and Kratos are great and comfortable magic knights, but I find Zelos more efficient, since his demon spear actually hits stuff, and enemies lower to the ground are less of a challenge for him.
Lloyd is as everyone says, fast and good for combo's, I ended up giving him a lot of air time with jumps, tempests and tiger blades abounding.
Collete has more than just para ball going for her, spamming her hidden mystic arte rarely gets old, and her angel skills are really a force to be reckoned with once you build up a good suite of mid-long range attacks to compliment her chakrams. GRAND CHARIOT!
Raine is probably the most badass healer ever. Why? Some light spells I can't get tired of, a ton of buffs and easy healing. Not to mention, she can combo pretty darn well once you get over the lack of artes. Also, Photon is the most broken way to buy you an extra 3 or 4 seconds in a combo.
Genis isn't a bad caster, and some of his exclusive spells I really miss in the newer games. Getting concentrate kinda broke him though.
Regal is an oddball, but amazing at stringing long combo's together, super swallow dance is tricky to combo with, but it's a tech that I love too much to leave out.
Presea has a lot of good moves, but really, it's about two techs: Resolute Infliction, and unleashing the BEAST.
Sheena was actually my main character for the first playthrough, tons of seals and elemental buffs make her flexible, Cyclone and force seal are great ways to buy time, debuffing enemies is a great advantage and draining TP/HP takes a little while to get efficient, but once you tip the ratio, the techs are more than just broken. More importantly though, She's incredibly easy to chain infinite combo's with, and has some of the coolest Unison attacks with Zelos. (And Her ones with Raine and Regal on PS2 are pretty cool too.) It doesn't hurt that she's the only one who can use darkness too.
I've solo'd Abyssion using Sheena, Zelos, Raine and Regal. All of them were pretty darn fun too. <3
