It's the random thought thread, the last thread in existence for this old-format message board! Here's a random thought: I'm still waiting for Tales of Arise, but I wouldn't mind playing Berseria again.
All I've been doing the past month is playing Xenoblade Chronicles: Definitive Edition and studying Japanese.
I fell victim to the bait-and-switch tactic used in Xenoblade Chronicles with you know who. In my defense, it should be illegal to give a character a bathing suit outfit from the get-go, but yeah I fell for it. I also got spoiled with the Xenoblade Smash trophy too, but hey at least there's hope, right? I'm on Chapter 11 so ain't no body say anything.

Hey... long time, no see. What brings you back to this archaic time machine from 2010?
I suppose if life's slow, never a better time to play Xenoblade Chronicles. I hear that game is hundreds of hours long.
I still haven't finished Berseria. I forgot most of what's happened in the plot now. Half the reason I don't play JRPGs anymore, aside from them being long and not finding them particularly deep, is that I forget the plot of most games, unless it was either really notable or I replayed it multiple times... my memory sucks.

For me, despite being spoiled by the Smash trophy, there was still a lot of things I didn't see coming. I also ruined all the flashbacks by having swimsuits on my characters when s**t hit the fan.
Xenoblade was a fun quarantine game. You can beat it in 60 hours, or you can spend 120 hours doing absolutely everything. It's pretty relaxing to do all the MMO-style fetch quests, and some of them are genuinely great.
I was going to write a rant about open source software licenses, but I don't think anyone cares about the details. Trying to understand all the legal bulls**t around it makes me want to stay away from anything that has letters "GPL" in them.

Some crap about Xenoblade Chronicles probably having been spoiled for me, but it not mattering because I never cared enough about the game to notice. Followed by a decision to buy it should a second stimulus come through (and bank the rest because god knows how long I will be here). Then I went on about how JRPGs really vary in length depending on your reading speed, but it kinda sounded masturbatory so I deleted it. Finally I finished with some dumb joke about the entire plot of Berseria being "Angry Woman Yells at Cloud".
There, I summed up my entire post in four sentences and somehow it still felt like it wasn't worth it.

Hey... long time, no see. What brings you back to this archaic time machine from 2010? Oh, hey. It has been a long time. I wanted to check on things here for nostalgia, I guess? BUT I guess there's not too much to see. I'll turn the question back on you, though. What brings you back here, or have you always been here? So when you order pizza from Papa John's now, you get a box with Shaq on it.... When we used to get this. Honestly, the Shaq picture is kind of disturbing tbh, not gonna lie.

Yeah, I've ... never left, haha. It's kind of weird? It is indeed very slow here; it's just the three of us. I guess it's sort of a habit or something. It's interesting because my life has changed in so many ways since, in a good way, so it's not like I'm sticking around out of nostalgia's sake or anything.
I've never had Papa John's. Am I missing out? I'm assuming it's higher quality than Domino's and Pizza Hut.
I'm kind of a monster who likes Pizza Hut... Domino's, I don't really like. It's edible, I guess. My real snobbery for pizza comes in against the "$1 pizza slice" popular here. $1 pizza became a thing in New York around the time I moved here. People defend it as a cheap thing to eat when you're hungry, but I contend it's not worth eating even in the deepest throes of starvation.
I just spent the past hour curating coworking locations in Manhattan and Brooklyn. I found ones that were way cheaper than WeWork. Now... the question is ... will anyone join me :< Probably not. Meh. I'm definitely not as productive working from home. This is an established fact. Not because I'm easily distracted, but because permanent WFH just feels like an empty endeavor.

Playing Dragon Quest 3 after getting the boat is like:
Hey look, a tower! I wonder what's inside! The Echo Flute! What the F*CK is an echo flute? Hey look, a city! I wonder what's inside! The Night Light! What the F*CK is a night light?
Plays the important item sound every time, so it's gonna be relevant sooner or later...

Papa John's is Papa John's. I would say it's better because I prefer oily pizza over Dominoes overly garlic-tasting crust, and also for the fact that I just moved from a small town where Dominoes was the only option and so I probably had it like 300 times. Probably doesn't compare at all to New York pizza. Actually, I'm sure it doesn't even though I've never been to NY.
I wish I could say my life has changed for the better. Not particularly bad, right now, just playing a waiting game working a minimum wage job until next year when I start a teaching contract in Japan. I'm supposed to land in Tokyo or Yokohama, which is exciting. Much better than out in the boonies. I've lived in the boonies for two years before I moved to my new city (hometown), and it sucked. Hopefully COVID doesn't change my plans. In any case, I will have saved up enough money to have a cushion to go abroad anywhere.
My cat keeps attacking the window screen, trying to catch the birds outside. She makes this chattering sound, it's entertaining. All I have to do is say the word "Birdie" and she makes the sound.

Hey Derman, I learned something fun. Remember how I mentioned I got Crypt of the Necrodancer a while ago, but never played it because I didn't have a ten-key? Well I talked to a friend, turns out it doesn't even use it. Har har.
It's a pretty neat concept honestly. It will definitely take some adjusting though.

Ok, I think I am reminiscing hard right now or I'm just on my third glass of wine (I'll let you decide.) What happened to our core group?: SnoozySam, Hiro, Zelar, Scott, Abby, Garbage, PhoneMasterIon, and anyone else I'm forgetting? Oh, nevermind. So today I learned a disturbing fact. Apparently toddlers have their adult teeth in their skull and below their eyes for when they are ready to kick the baby teeth out. I saw a picture in a post today on Quora, not because I wanted to, and it's one of the most disturbing things I've seen. Very trypophobia inducing for sure. Here is the picture in case you're interested. Not gory or anything, just kinda creepy:

Probably doesn't compare at all to New York pizza. Actually, I'm sure it doesn't even though I've never been to NY. So... my thoughts on NY pizza. People talk about how it's the best pizza, right? I disagree with this notion. I think NY just wins out on pizza because it's a huge city. The worst pizza I've had has been in NY; the best pizza I've had has also been in NY. There are LOTS of pizza places in between. This is kind of how NY works in general on food; there's 10 million people here, so you're bound to hit some real gems and some not-so-gems. I also love Chicago deep dish style pizza and will fight anyone who criticizes it. Are you doing something other than JET? I'm curious what kind of small town you were living in? Small town as in sub 10,000 people? 50,000? etc. I'm looking to move out of NYC after 9 years... I want to move to a small-but-not-small town or city. One that's walkable and has a downtown area, and houses are relatively close together. My parents live in a very spread-out town of about 20,000 people with one main street, and I hate it. I still talk to Sam, Hiro and Griffin every day on Discord! They are doing well. Sam is working as a legal assistant in British Columbia; Hiro (now Fennel, as she transitioned) is out in Colorado and was working in the hospitality industry before COVID; Griffin is going to journalism school at Columbia. As for the others... I think Abby is still running the website. Scott I blocked across every social media channel, so really have no idea what he's up to other than that I assume he is probably still being a creep. Garbage appeared here once or twice and was in medical school. No idea what happened to the others. Andddd yeah I shouldn't have looked at those photos. Glutton for punishment. So, in order to get your license in New York State, you have to pass the permit test, then take driver's ed, and then take the driver's test. You could do the first and third steps once your county hit Phase 3, but no dice on the driver's ed piece. Got the permit, but couldn't actually take the test because I had to do the classroom instruction in order to even sign up for a road test at some point in the future. This past week New York State decided perhaps it would be cool if they allowed that to be online. So I signed up for a class yesterday. Online education is kind of amazing and terrible? I spent at least an hour of the 5 hour class reading about face transplants. This was nice because there was pretty much nothing useful conveyed in the 5 hours. But ... man, I just don't see how that plays out in practice in school. In what world would a lot of kids not goof off? I guess maybe kids pay attention more because they might actually be tested? I would have loved the effects of COVID in high school... no forced after school extracurriculars, no social rigamarole, no getting up ungodly early in the morning for the bus, just do work at home. As an adult, though, it really sucks. 17-year-old me would have been thrilled sitting at home playing video games and chatting to people online. 28-year-old me would rather not.

Well I talked to a friend, turns out it doesn't even use it. Huh, didn't even think that could be the case. I was wondering how 9 (or 10, if you can wait) directions would work on a controller because I feel like it could be hard to hit the directions consistently. So I guess that problem is solved then.

Funny you guys should mention Crypt of the Necrodancer, since I was watching my friend play that on Thursday.
I really like watching people play rhythm games... and I really like the concept of them... but I just can't hack it. I'm sooooo bad. Basically the only games I'm actually really good at are word games. Shame Bananagrams doesn't really translate to online play.
That reminds me that I fell asleep last night doing the NYT crossword puzzle. I should finish that tonight. I like that the NYT doesn't reuse crossword puzzle clues, the way a lot of crossword puzzle books will. I'm basically screwed on Hollywood references, though, as a non-TV/non-movie watcher.
I want a new hobby. Ideally something that has a tangible output. But whenever I look at hobby lists online, I think, boring... boring... boring... boring... or, that sounds cool, but also where TF would I do that in my tiny apartment? Like tie-dying (no yard) or model building (no space) :<
The worst suggestion I saw on the list was "collecting dolls." DOLLS ARE CREEPY. I hate them! I've always hated them, even as a kid. They just stare and stare and stare...
