Against my better judgment, the Pokemon announcement on Sunday.
Considering how Nintendo has had a habit as of late claiming there will be a "big Pokemon announcement" and then announcing sh*tty stuff like PokePark, I probably shouldn't get my hopes up.
Forget about Pokemon Grey. They should announce my godd*mn Pokemon Snap game already. I've been waiting for that for eleven years now.

The end of next week. Or even the end of Wednesday would be nice. Have a test on Wednesday and really paranoid about it because my TA is anal-retentive and takes off points for nothing. Of course, on either Wednesday or Thursday my Greek professor is giving us a test, and I have a sneaking feeling it will also be on Wednesday because it would just be too convenient otherwise. If she doesn't give us a test on Wednesday, she'll probably make us write more compositions in Greek, which will probably eat up just as much time as studying would I wish my Tuesdays weren't so crunched. Classes from 9:30-12:15 and 2-6. F*ck me, arghhhh.

My video project that I have to do in my Japanese class as part of my final. Me and some friends in the class are going put together a Batsu video, with me possibly being the host.
If you don't know what Batsu is, well look it up!

Greece has its elections today. I'm rather interested in seeing the results. After all, who they vote in (or out) essentially determines whether they will stay in the EU.
The economic reforms forced upon Greece by Germany and the rest of the EU are incredibly unpopular, even though they've saved Greece from bankruptcy (the country would have gone bankrupt last December otherwise, iirc). If they vote in anti-bailout parties, which is a real possibility, the financial measures will fail. Greece's continued membership in the EU is contingent upon the continued enforcement of the reforms.
I really hope the Greeks aren't stupid enough to vote in the anti-bailout parties. Yes, the economic reforms are painful, but if Greece gets kicked out and is left to deal with its economic problems on its own, it won't. Greece is so horribly mired in corruption that their economic status will be never change unless they make deep, long-lasting structural changes in both their economic system and in their society, which Germany is forcing them to do right now. Greece loves to blame predatory banking as the cause of their economic woes, but at the end of the day, their problems are really societal in nature. Corruption is so deeply and pervasively embedded in their culture, it's a wonder the country didn't fall apart sooner. Socialism is all very well and good when you pay your taxes to support those services. The Greeks don't; tax evasion there is rampant at all socioeconomic levels. It's no wonder Greece had to borrow so much money from banks when almost no taxes are collected...

Even if it isn't smooth, or if it takes decades, it has to happen from as low as the grassroots. There's lots of chaos involved, but chaos doesn't last forever--eventually a new order will come through.

It's easy to say that that they would be rewarded for their financial irresponsibility, and on one level, it's true. It still pisses me off that the government bailed out the auto companies here; you don't get to squander your money and then get saved. But it's not as cut-and-dry as that. Because Greece is part of the EU and the way the EU is set up, letting them fail means every other country gets pulled down into their mess. It's a huge domino thing. Greece failing means that Italy and Spain, already in precarious positions, are likely to be pushed into financial disaster, and if they fail, it's simply done for the EU. This is the downside of the EU--when one country f*cks up, it makes every other country f*ck up, too. Bailing out the Greeks isn't about the Greeks. It's about Europe. If Greece wasn't part of the EU and was just its own country with no ties to anyone else, nobody would care that Greece was going bankrupt. In terms of the global economy, Greece by itself is as important as Tajikistan or Belize, that is to say, completely unimportant. It'd go bankrupt on its own time, deal it itself, and get itself back together, and things would be fine. See for reference Iceland. You could just say that the Greeks should then be kicked out and left to deal with the mess on their own, then, but this also has dire financial consequences for the EU. There's no easy out. edit: greece.greekreporter.com/2012/05/06/greek-elections-exit-poll-big-upsets/Ah, yeah, not looking so hot. "...the neo-Nazi Fascists of Golden Dawn, which wants all immigrants – legal or otherwise, including Greek citizens – kicked out of Greece and landmines placed around the border." hahahah, well, then, I'm glad to know the US isn't alone in having anti-immigration crazies... I don't think anyone's been creative enough yet to suggest landmines around the borders yet here. Probably shouldn't give them ideas...

If Greece makes the EU fall apart, that's fine. It will be a sound representation of the flaws in the banking system, the global economy's dependency on fiat money, and the irresponsibility of electronic transactions (purchasing of government bonds.)
From there one can hope Europe adopts a gold standard. Or, heck, I'd even push for a total socioeconomic reform.

The EU failing would plunge the entire world into the throes of deep financial disaster, but I suppose if you really think the economic system is that bad, it's preferable to its continued existence. I don't think that, but whatever, to each their own.

I'm sure the EU failing would be a good thing.
If you like dark ages and vastly reduced quality-of-life worldwide.
