Especially at this point, word-of-mouth through the internet is so fast and so ubiquitous that anyone who hasn't heard of, say, Tales of Graces F is someone who wasn't going to buy it anyways. And anyone who sees an ad for it and would later go on to buy it has already heard of it, making the ad irrelevant. That is completely untrue. I know plenty of people in real life and online who play games with anime-style graphics and have never even heard of the Tales series. If it weren't for coincidentally stumbling across Tales of Symphonia in-store and loving it, I would probably be completely ignorant of the series' existence. And this is coming from someone who for years and years played anime-style MMOs. The only people I can talk to about Tales are people online already in the Tales fandom, or friends who I introduced to the series. My friends hadn't heard of Tales of Graces f. But when it was announced that it was going to be localized, I showed them a Japanese trailer to get them interested. Was that the first time they'd heard of Tales of Graces f? Yes. Were they interested in it? Yes. No one's going to buy something if they don't know it exists. I honestly don't believe the anime-style graphics are as much of an issue as you make it out to be. People who poo-poo it just because it's anime-style probably aren't big RPG gamers anyway.

Kelocena, anecdotal evidence does not a major fraction of the market make.
Unless you happen to have several dozen-thousand friends, none of whom have ever heard of Tales before.
Oh, sure, these people exist. But they're not a large enough group that advertising costs would make up for it. Which is, well, the entire point.

To be fair, most people I know who play RPGs tend to have heard of or played ToS, but don't realize it's a series.
But then again, I haven't really been into Tales since the middle of high school, and I think the series has gotten a lot more well-known on the internet since then. Every now and then I'll come across somebody who's a big fan of the series now who I know didn't know about it before.

It's true, there could be a lot more people who could be interested but just don't know than you think. Before I came across ToS:DotNW a few months ago I had only heard of these games passingly on TV Tropes while looking for other things within the past year or so before. I've found and bought 5 other games since then. To be fair, most people I know who play RPGs tend to have heard of or played ToS, but don't realize it's a series. Hmm...After reading this I looked at all my games...outside of numbers/subtitles (Grandia 3, Final Fantasy: Crystal Chronicles), and DotNW's "Tales 10th" none of the games have anything showing they were part of a series. Including something like that would probably help.

lol I didn't even know about Symphonia until I saw some ads and a gameplay trailer of it a couple of months or so after it was released. When I saw that trailer, I knew I'd get that game soon (how soon? I walked to gamestop a couple of hours later to get it lol).
It was only later that I realized it was part of the "Tales of" series of games I loved on the PSone (ie ToD and ToE), when I've already played the game for a bit. I've been like 10x the fan of the series since then ;D (Which ead to a chain of events that gave birth to Abyssal Chronicles lol)
Bottom line, the game must come out here in the US and do well, because that will make me (and many fans) happy, and probably other RPG gamers hungry for more. How is it going to be accomplished? More ads and exposure? More word-of-mouth? Crazy fan campaigns sprouting all over? Whatever or however it may be, it will be up to Namdai and all the fans in the end, and here's me hoping any of those would lead up to a localization.

Looking at it now, I think that it is very likely that Xillia will be localized. It sold really well in japan and, even though I could barely understand it, the story and gameplay were amazing.
About ads, Namco Bandai has been doing alot better with ads then before with the Tales of Graces F posters. Also, they apparently didn't expect Tales of the Abyss 3DS to sell very much but it ended up sold out when I went to go get my pre-ordered copy the day it came out. Maybe that was just the die-hard fans, or maybe their ads are attracting more people to the series. Either way, I guess we'll have to see how Tales of Graces F sells.

I think they're waiting on the results of Tales of Graces before they consider Xillia.
Most of the game stores around here sold out of Tales of the Abyss by the end of the week, but considering how few copies each store had (some had only 3 or 4), I'm not sure if it means anything.

Guess that's probably true. I was only there after they were sold out so I didn't know how many were there to begin with.

I'm thinking that too. If I worked at Gamestop, I would make a poster myself of Tales of the Abyss to promote it.

Hikari There are at least graces posters up in gamestops. Better than nothing

I dunno. I found out Tales was a series pretty quickly after having playing Symphonia.

I was talking to a Gamestop employee today about Graces, and she said the shipping situation was going to be like Abyss's--very few copies shipped. She really encouraged pre-ordering because she doubted Namco would ship enough copies that Gamestop would have many non-reserved copies to sell.

Plus pre-orders come with exclusive DLC, so no reason not to if you plan on getting it, unless you're broke :/
