The only time I left Washington was when I went to Silverwood, Idaho and two hours into Canada to a waterpark. And that was in the same trip.
I've never been to an airport, I've only rode on a train for about 30 minutes and the closest thing to a boat I've been on is a ferry.

So some questions related to traveling to those who have more experience with this: How did you come up with the money to travel (by yourself)? Did you save up for it yourself, was it paid for by your parents, or were you, say, studying abroad and so were on a scholarship?
I want to travel to Japan one of these days, but it looks very expensive, especially for the round-trip plane ticket. I hear people spend $3,000 easily for only a few weeks. I already missed some of the deadlines for scholarships to study abroad there in the fall, but I don't know if I should still go for it.

My parents have always financed everything, so I can't speak for covering costs. But I would recommend you go for it. You're not going to have the opportunity to go to Japan later. (Well, you could, technically, but it's not nearly as easy or convenient.)

Yeah, I think I will still try. I don't really have anything to lose in the application process but some of my time, which is abundant anyway.
I think the hardest part will be asking for letters of recommendation, but I just gotta man-up and do it. haha

So I bought tickets to a UK reunion concert in Seattle for May 14, which means now I have look at making a reservation for somewhere to stay. I found a single bed available in a dormitory room for $35, but I don't know if I will be the only occupant in the room or with others. Can anyone with traveling experience tell me if this is a good deal? Here's what I'm looking at.

I've never been to a youth hostel, so I can't say if it's decent for that. But compared to a hotel, it's a steal.
