Eggs are pretty lame. I don't find them filling in the least.
My new food loves: Fiber One cereal butternut squash sweet potato bulgur dark red kidney beans
Those largely comprise all of what I eat; I eat the same things every day. Breakfast is always Fiber One, lunch is always a protein shake, and dinner is always bulgur and protein shake or chicken. If there's no bulgur, then I eat the dark red kidney beans. On occasion, I will have butternut squash or salad. Popcorn is pretty rad, too.
The day I first had bulgur was the day I stopped eating rice. So fabulous.

I have a friend whose neighbor is pushing 102 years old. This very old gentleman smoked for 30 years and mostly ate fish n' chips and fatty foods all his life. Maybe there are other factors involved, like genetics and physical activity, but this just supports my theory that all this dieting does not necessarily lead to a long, healthy life. From what I can determine out of what this friend told me, this old gentleman just doesn't give a crap what he eats and doesn't stress about it. The oldest person in the world (this old lady in France) drinks wine regularly most of her life. With that said... eat those fatty foods with gusto! It would be preferable if they are fresh and unprocessed (as processed food = calories and carbs with very little nutrition, while unprocessed natural food are the opposite), but the positive attitude that counts most! We need all that fat, after all, our body seeks it out and cutting back on fats would only make the body feel hungry no matter how much you eat (same goes for cutting back on other vitamins and minerals)! End rant. Don't just eat your food, enjoy! Anyway, I'm starting to gain a better appreciation out of just blending random veggies, as well as my mom's tomatoes, since we're kinda low on food for the past couple of weeks. If it doesn't taste good, I would add honey to the mix. Instead of sugar in my coffee, I put honey instead - and I love it!

I don't think you should point to one 102-year-old man as evidence that diet has very little impact on one's health. The oldest human on record, Jeanne Calment, smoked heavily until she was 117, but she's not evidence that smoking doesn't cause lung cancer. The guy's probably just lucky. Diet's impact on one's health cannot be understated. That being said, you're right in that fats aren't necessarily bad. The whole crusade against fat in diet is very misguided. Certain types of fat are unhealthy, like trans fats and saturated fats (essentially, solid fats, like butter, tend to be not so great), but unsaturated fats (think oil and nuts), are actually very healthy. The "good" fats are essential for proper brain function, particularly the maintenance of myelin sheaths and proper hormone regulation (this is part of the reason female anorexics often stop menstruating). Although fat carries a higher caloric content (9 calories per gram, as compared to 4 in protein and carbs), good fats actually help keep you feeling full longer. Hence why a mere handful of nuts can be filling, but a candy bar definitely won't be. Amusingly enough, low-fat products often are just as unhealthy as or even unhealthier than the full fat products because manufacturers will add in other things, like more salt and sugar, to achieve the same taste. Even more amusing? Low-fat products are correlated with weight gain. Why? Studies have shown people will eat more (calorie-wise) if a product is labeled “low fat” or “diet,” presumably because the “healthy” label makes them feel justified in eating more. Diet soda is also similarly correlated with weight gain… not because the soda itself causes weight gain, but because people then feel entitled to gorge on something else more calorific instead. (Did you know consumption of sweetened beverages is in fact the biggest leading cause of the obesity epidemic? It’s not inactivity, like everyone likes to think. Diet alone accounts for about 70% of one’s weight.) Dammit, Scott, why did you get me off onto this topic

Hahah I don't have anymore to add to this particular topic, as you've covered most of what I'm going to follow up to, and more "Diet" and "low fat" are the worst kinds of food out there, so that's one warning that isn't stated enough! And to add to this topic, Filipino dinners are always my favorite! They're mostly stews, and delicious ones at that! If any of you know any good Filipino food places, check em out! Foods like sinigang, tinola, nilagang baka, menudo, giniling,etc... major comfort food that are healthy, since all our stews always have both meat and lots of veggies on them!!
