Got this from CrunchyRoll, ( www.crunchyroll.com/anime-news/2012/02/09-1/how-do-japanese-anime-fans-decide-what-to-watch) Basically, what elements do you love and hate in Animes? (What you do want in the anime and what you don't.) This is what I love in most animes: Some type of BL teaser, Blood (Not much), Comedy, A favorite voicer, an awesome story line, High School Life Animes (Most of the time, Like Lucky Star, Nichijou, etc.) and...anythings good...EXCEPT... What I hate: Mecha (I'm sorry, don't kill me! DX ), Moe Moe Like characters (UNLESS ITS THE AWESOME MOE), Big Boobies (This is a major thing that annoys the hell outta me.), Action Harems (ex., HOTD [Don't get my wrong, that anime was awesome, but I hate Rei, ESPECIALLY TAKAGI (Saya), and Shizuka-sensei. ]), a pairing I hate (I don't just have to watch a few episodes to hate/like it, it comes quick.) . What about you?

I like serious anime. Just like I like my books. Make me think or have an interesting plot, and you have me sold. I haven't really gotten hooked on many anime, though...
If something is shojo, chances are I won't like it. I also dislike harems, high school anime, slice of life, romance, comedy, blood/gore (I am sorry, Higurashi, but you were disgusting), moe (oh, god, I hate moe), and general silliness. Call me humorless, but I just don't have any patience for silly anime. Bento Box or whatever last season? Painful.

Well....basing on the page you posted I'd watch animes if they had all or most of these elemnts:
1/Story 2/Design 3/Animation 4/Jokes 5/Battles, confrontations
& I'd add "Romance" & somehow "SoundTracks"...

looking for:
- have decent, well-rounded interesting characters - a decent plot and pacing - balance between seriousness and comedy - certain voice actors/seiiyuu (i.e. Akira Ishida, Daisuke Namikawa, Noriaki Sugiyama, KENN, Kana Hanazawa...) - i don't mind the usage of tropes in characterization, but i prefer if the character (or plot) is able to break away from it at times without making it seem OOC
not looking for: - slap-slap humor; extreme violence as humor (i can take a little violent humor but not when its brutal and overdone) - overusage of character tropes to the point it consumes their entire character and there's nothing else remotely interested about them - obnoxious characters - boring uninteresting plot - mindless comedy
... there's more, i think. but that's the gist.

I like anime with unpredictable plots but not so much to where it's just random story progression. Call me humorless, but I just don't have any patience for silly anime. Same. You know what I hate? An anime you think is serious but it killed with stupid humor. There's far too much of that in anime I try to watch, unfortunately.

It mostly depends on my mood. Sometimes I will go for something serious. Other times I'll watch something completely bonkers.

I've actually tried a lot of different animes, mostly because I just get turned off by the most basic anime "comedy" tropes. They are just too awkward for me. I prefer original, unusual and well structured anime. I don't mind some minor pacing issues that most anime have as long as it doesn't go to the filler route. It always makes me cringe when I see those "funny"-scenes and way too generic archetypes (I don't even know the names for every one). The only quality anime should have to keep me entertained is to not make me want to close my laptop's lid constantly and go do something else. Can't really specify better. I liked Psycho Pass, Death Note, Durarara, Gurren Lagann. Can't really find anything that applies to every one of them, except that all of them are fairly short.

I simply watch through a series if I'm asked for an opinion on it. It's fun being informed, ya know?

Durarara is dope, I'd say them 90's anime overall is mostly my thing. I may actually rewatch Outlaw Star and the OG Dragonball now that I think about it.

I like serious and comedy. For example I truly love 'Psycho Pass' and I regularly enjoy 'Gintama'. The two series are extremely different yet I can enjoy both. I also have a thing for mystery and slice of life (and no not that high school stuff.....well it depends I guess). I also loved Evangelion and FLCL.
