Just curious. I know myself and a few others here wear glasses, but I don't know about everyone else.
How is your vision? If you wear glasses or contacts, why do you wear them and how often?
I've been wearing glasses for single vision since I was in elementary school. I had a lazy eye back then and I needed glasses to correct it, but I also had to wear them because of my astigmatism, which I still have. My eyesight has just never been optimal, but at least I'm not blind.

I've worn glasses on and off throughout my life. According to the Navy and just about every other doctor who has checked my vision, I need them now, but I don't wear them. My vision is perfectly fine without them, so bleh.

Last time I got my eyes checked, I've got perfect 20/20 vision. I'm not 100% sure if that's still how my eyes are today, but at least I can read stuff from a long distance, further than my friends' can make out with their eyes.

My eyesight was perfect until three years ago or so, when I began having trouble reading text on the TV while playing video games. I got glasses then, but I didn't start wearing them regularly until this year because I could get away with not wearing them. Not anymore, sadly. I wear them full-time now.

I'm so nearsighted, I'm legally blind without my glasses.
In fact, I'm so nearsighted that I can't join the police force. Need an uncorrected vision of greater than -200. Guess what my prescription is, and guess what's not working for me anymore.
I wear my glasses all the time, even when fencing (except when it's as hot as it was Monday night. Had to fence blind because my glasses kept slipping to the tip of my nose).

Any of you considered getting those lasik eye surgery thingies? My bro is saving up to get that surgery just so that he won't have to wear glasses anymore.

My mother, who has always had exceptionally poor vision, got lasik eye surgery a few years ago. It helped for a while, but her eyesight is beginning to rapidly decline again. She says her vision is about equivalent now to what it was before the surgery. Since it's so expensive, you'd expect it to last longer, but eh.

Laser eye surgery hasn't existed long enough to see any potential long-term effects in those who have had the surgery, so it's too risky for me to consider yet. At some point, when the surgery is more refined, I may consider it.

I found out the eyesight requirement at the beginning of the year, but I figured I would be fine since my prescription had been holding out for several years, but my eyes have gone on the decline again. I can still see fine, but I'm starting to have trouble seeing faces and reading small text at a distance. Lasik probably holds better in younger people, but I don't really know how to predict vision decay, myself. Any of you considered getting those lasik eye surgery thingies? At some point, when the surgery is more refined, I may consider it. The surgery is 20 years old. That not long-term enough? Besides, there's always the tried-and-true radial keratotomy!. So long as you never plan on climbing Mt Everest. Screen-viewing won't damage your vision. At worst you'll get eye fatigue, but eye fatigue doesn't worsen your vision permanently.

I don't want to go blind or anything. haha Besides, there's always the tried-and-true radial keratotomy!. So long as you never plan on climbing Mt Everest. Uh, what would that do?

They have only gotten worse since.

Something important I found out from my eye physician is that if your eyes aren't looking through the optical center of your glasses, the correction of your vision can take longer.

People who have gotten radial keratatomy have been known to lose vision at extremely high altitudes (presumably due to the pressure difference).
