Xillia 2 by a long shot. Jude's Xillia 2 costume is really the only default costume I keep on for a character despite getting the DLC costumes for him. The color variation on Jude's costume is really cool too. The only one I didn't like that much was Alvin's Xillia 2 costume. Looks pretty meh with the beard too. Everyone else on the other hand, was a huge improvement.

I preffer pretty much everyone's new costumes. Especially Muzét and Jude. I agree, Jude's default costume is really cool. Even with all the DLC I have, I use Jude's default from time to time, because I really like it. I also love both of Milla's new outfit ^^ the one I didn't really like all that much was Alvin's. His color variation of Xillia 2's costume looks much better than the normal one.

Milla's got a major upgrade in ToX2, both of them actually. Her Fracture costume has this unique flair to it that looks like it came out of ToX1, while still being its own thing. And her Maxwell costume recolor is just amazing. Black, White and Gold, that's just glorious.
I agree on the Alvin Goatee thing,it really looks nice overall with some older costumes I think (like Stward). Gaius' is amazing too for being so simple. I also really like his jacketless variant with the pants design.
I would say some stuff about Ludger's, but he has no ToX1 to compare it too, its a cool design though. I dont normally care for suspenders, but he makes them work. But I do like multicolored hair.

Ludger has one of the best JRPG protagonist designs in my opinion. It's simple with some japanese over-the-top style with its colors. Also the hammer is a hipster weapon. So small and cute :3.
I actually prefer the X1 version of Jude, but others are at least as good in X2 as in X2.

Lol, suspenders; some people make them work, like Lloyd; others, like Luds, just makes him look like a dork. That's why Nova will never look at him in THAT way. Other than that, X2 for most of the returning cast. Honestly, not a fan of Gaius's and Alvin's suit attire; it just seems so uninspired =0\. Elize's is a bit better than in X1. I never really liked her outfit in X1, but X2's outfit shows her physique in a cute way. Leia and Milla Maxwell are definitely my favorites design-wise. Leia's design really encapsulates her tomboyish appeal, while still being trendy and a bit of trickling cute here-and-there. Milla Maxwell's is just plain excellent; great design, and really emphasizes Milla's glorious figure. Jude's no-jacket is nice(though I mainly like his hairstyle) and Muzet has a better, less streamlined design in X2.

In X1 I liked: Rowen Alvin Gaius Muzet
But in X2 I liked: Jude Fractured!Milla Leia Elize
And I don't like either of Original!Milla's designs, although X2's is preferable.

I think the Suspenders completes the costume Imo, so I'll have to agree to disagree here. Though Victor's outfit is the bee's knees, then again that's not a default costume :/
That said I wish Elle had alternate costumes, for whatever reason.

That said I wish Elle had alternate costumes, for whatever reason. This. I was really hoping she'd get a Katz costume for finishing the cat lady side quest, and was sorely disappointed.

I much prefer the X2 costumes over X1, especially Rowen's. It looks so comfy.

While on an individual level I'd probably say that X2's look better, I really liked the colour variation in X1. When I look at those designs next to each other, I love the contrast between Jude's blue, Milla's pink, Rowen's green, Leia's... whatever that is, and Alvin's brown. Elize didn't really have that going on, but it still worked. I'm not sure if I'm articulating my point well, but I feel like when you line the X2 characters up they blend into a washed-out mass. If it helps to give an example from another game, I feel Vesperia also did this really well.
Sometimes it's a pain to have a point, but not be able to find the words necessary to convey it...
