I'll admit, I'm not /too/ big on anime, but it is something I can sit down and watch every so often when I have absolutely nothing to do. Anyone got any favorites?
Current season:
Death Parade - only anime I'm /closely/ following this season. Profoundly psychological episodic anime, kinda thought provoking at times. The "Noir/Bar Jazz" setting is also amazing. Hard to watch anything else with this on the line-up honestly.
Previous Season(s):
No Game No Life - Only watched like 2 anime last year, NGNL was one of those. Really great anime, short watch though (about 12 eps), I'd recommend to anyone who has a hobby in gaming. Where's season 2?
Fate/Stay Night UBW - Huge Type-Moon fan, so this was a non-negotiable watch. Ufotable really went ham on this.
----
Bebop, Champloo, FLCL, and Sakamichi no Apollon are forever.

I'm not that into anime, but I really enjoyed season 1 & 2 of Kaiji. Season 1, especially. Incredibly tense and exciting show about gambling, among other things. Gotta watch those again one of these days.
Finished season 1 of Space Dandy a few months ago, and that was pretty fun. Very off-the-wall humor with a new "storyline" in each episode. Rarely watch anime, as I said, so I guess Space Dandy is more of a favorite from that particular season since I've got nothing to compare it to.
I got really into the Umineko No Naku Koro Ni VN series a few years back, but never finished the 4th installment. Forgotten so much about it and I don't really feel like plowing through the previous 3 just to get back up to speed, heh. Great music, though.

My favs are (In order I watched them): FMA: Brotherhood Gurren Lagann Death Note Steins;Gate Psycho-Pass (the first season, second was not so good, I'll try to get my hands on the movie though) Also got to give props for SAO for having so awesome soundtrack (not gonna comment on the anime itself though)
I do not watch that much anime(~2 series/year)and I hate to admit that my first anime was SRW Original Generation: The Inspector. Looking Back now...my taste has changed a lot. I did enjoy TotA and ToS animes, though I don't see people who have not played the games enjoying them. Nowadays I pick some series and stop watching after few episodes. Currently watching Durarara!! first season and looking good this far. Dunno If I'll ever finish it though.

I'm not really into anime aside from Cowboy Bebop and Miyazaki's films, which are far removed from what I generally think of as anime, but I do have some favorite manga. I know some of these were adapted into anime, but they were done so with mixed results in my opinion.
Battle Angel Alita Pluto Monster Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind Mushi-shi Fullmetal Alchemist Deathnote

I don't really watch anime, honestly. Or TV in general. I watch maybe one or two series a year.
That being said, I loved Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood.
Death Note was pretty good up until L died. Then it became extremely mediocre.

@joey, I feel the same about death note haha, only real reason to stick around post-L is to how Light eventually dies lol. wingul, nice to meet a fellow TM fan! I recommend getting into KnK asap! Tsukihime/KnK are probably my favorite things to come out of TM

Death Note was pretty good up until L died. Then it became extremely mediocre. I was actually fine with the second half because I think it was necessary for the story to continue in the way it did to show how the world would change under Kira's unchecked influence, and just having Light win would have been a major cop-out. L's death also isn't stupid and drawn-out in the manga; Rem kills him the second he starts to suspect Misa again. I feel like the mind games got more complex in the second half too, but were less dramatic and thus boring in TV show form. It really works better as a comic.

Anime? Bunch of stupid cartoons for kids... ... ... *looks at avatar* ... ... Okay fine, you got me. Clever bunch, aren't you? I watch anime to let my mind be stupid. I can't watch movies or television because I study creative writing, and so I cannot help but break everything down and analyze it. For whatever reason I can watch anime and not care. For me that makes anime a kind of mental break, so I tend to stay away from the more thought-provoking or experimental shows. On that note: Danshi Koukousei no Nichijou - Watching this always reminds me of screwing around with my friends in High School. It never fails puts a smile on my face. Inferno Cop - Seriously, what? Yet again, this totally seems like something my friends and I would have made back in the day. Full Metal Alchemist Brotherhood - It's got all the typical Shounen stuff I can watch on autopilot, with just enough heart to keep from wanting to smash my face through the desk. Also it feels like it actually had a plan, followed it through and ended without being artificially extended well beyond any kind of quality. Mushi-shi - I found this one recently, and it's just fantastic. I know I said I usually stay away from thought-provoking shows, but this one is above that limitation. Not for everyone, but I would recommend to anyone. Shakugan no Shana - God this one is painful to admit. It hits EVERY SINGLE irritating trope that plagues modern anime, yet Yuji's evolution is just so awesome. He starts as a regular student unable to even dodge a stick. Unlike so many other protagonists in anime, he doesn't become an unstoppable force overnight. He literally works his way up in strength and character. Then, when he finally reaches a power equal to that of Shana's, he becomes the leader of the opposing force. Throughout the final season the two fight each other, both intent on the same goal - being together - but unable to agree on the method of obtaining that goal. Yuji's growth, his changing of sides, becoming the final "villain" of the show, and the conflict between him and Shana all work together so well that, despite hitting all the same tropes of many anime, they elevate this show to something better. It might not tackle these themes in the most mature or complex ways, but as I already established, I watch anime to let my mind be stupid. To me Shakugan no Shana is an example of how a show can hit every trope in the book while still managing to be unique and memorable.
Of course, you probably disagree and think I'm completely insane. I still love you, though.

My favorites... Ghost Stories (The English Dub is something else.) bruuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuh that show speaks to me on another level on a very, cynical level Fate/Stay Night UBW - Huge Type-Moon fan, so this was a non-negotiable watch. Ufotable really went ham on this. Have you seen Fate/Zero by any chance? Maybe by ufotable as well and is quite amazing despite being a few years older.

coliflowerz: I did watch F/Z, it was pretty great. Only gripe with it is that it misleads a lot of newcomers to Fate series in that they consider it a direct prequel to F/SN and treat it as such :/ Have you seen the Kara no Kyoukai movies? (there's 7 films + an epilogue) one of my favorite Type-Moon stories, also done by Ufotable a few years pre-Fate/Zero. Worth a watch if you like Type-Moon or just interested in supernatural anime in general.

I am one of those newcomers so i'm not 100% clear on it ^^;; Have you seen the Kara no Kyoukai movies? Worth a watch if you like Type-Moon or just interested in supernatural anime in general. I've heard good things about those movies and I've been meaning to watch them. I like anime movies a lot better than episodic ones because i feel everything is more concentrated and higher quality, usually. Plus I have a short attention span and can't really do the whole watch a part a week thing so that helps.

F/Z is pretty much its own story with little connection to /Stay Night other than characters, but it's all written with the assumption that you've read/watched the original Fate/Stay Night.
and yeah definitely do it, the KnK movies are episodic in themselves, and can get pretty confusing since the movies explore Nasuverse mythos pretty deeply, but a great watch regardless.
