So if you've come to the forums without checking out the main site, there appears to be an entry for Tales of Zestiria in the steam database. Of course, simply because an entry exists there doesn't make it an instant confirmation that the game will become available on steam, but it's nevertheless a surprising find. Also the (extremely brief) appearance of Zestiria footage in a PS4 commercial has people questioning if a PS4 announcement might be forthcoming.
So let's discuss these potential ports. What are your thoughts on getting Zestiria on PC? Do you think that this commercial is an indicator that Zesty PS4 is confirmed? What enhancements do you think might be made to these two versions?
Personally I'd probably end up getting it on PC, considering I have a solid setup. The raw power of the PC might be able to push through some of the poor optimization... although that's not always a given (I'm looking at you, DMC 3). I'll miss having the size of the TV though. I do question the probability of actually seeing it on Steam, as PC gaming in Japan isn't large, and most of the sales for Tales games still come from inside the country.
As for the commercial footage, I don't put much faith in it. To be honest, I find myself split on the possibility of a PS4 port. While the history of past Tales games make it impossible to rule out, particularly in recent years, I still question if PS4 sales in Japan are large enough to make such a venture profitable, particularly after the negative reception that Zestiria received.

I don't see why putting it on Steam is a bad idea. There's a good audience you can get on Steam, plus if it becomes a Steam sale, the likelihood of purchase is better compared to a PSN sale due to the reputation Steam sales tend to have.
The commercial/PS4 rumor I don't think much of. I know it's hard to take some words that Baba says seriously, but I do get a sense of sincerity when he said that the Tales development team shrunk due to the Tales Studio merge. Besides, the footage (as mentioned in the news post.) was borrowed from a JP Sony 20th Anniversary video, which showed off PS3 games too, so I highly doubt it means much.

Did I imply it was a bad idea, or where you making a general statement? If the former, I apologize: I didn't mean that at all, rather I find a PC release extremely unlikely. I don't doubt it'd sell phenomenally well on Steam... in the west... relative to console sales. JRPGs are the only reason I own certain consoles (give me Vesperia on anything else and I'll chuck my 360 out a window. Worst console experience of my life), so I'm all for having more on PC. It's just that PC gaming isn't really a huge thing in Japan, where Tales makes the bulk of its sales (rhyme unintended).

I think it is possible for Zesty to have a PC relese, considering the success of LoH:TitS and Valkyria chronicles. The FF titles are doing decently as well. I think it all depends on the reception the localization gets, since PC gaming is not very popular in japan. I would love to have a PC release though.
I dunno how well the game would translate into Keyboard/Mouse, and I don't see them adding any extra content for PC release. Maybe some graphical tuning and (hopefully) better camera. I personally wouldn't mind if they forced you to use a controller.

Yeah I have no idea how Steam fares in Japan, but considering Namdai's recent practice of transferring games like One Piece over without problem, I'd assume they feel there's some market there after a couple of transfers. Plus it being Tales would probably garner more sales or interest... Minus all the polarization its done since release. If it does go on Steam, I wonder if those who can get into the code can modify it to improve the camera.

If Zesty does come to Steam, I hope they find a way to implement online co-op. Co-op is one of the best things about Tales, so it would kind of suck if there's just no way to enjoy it on their PC releases. Playing local co-op on computer isn't as easy as doing it on a console

I have a strong feeling that we're going to see a ToZf or something of that sort come out on PS4. Considering people's opinions it's not far off to call this game "unfinished." It really wouldn't surprise me if there was an expanded release coming down the pipe for this one.

I dunno how well the game would translate into Keyboard/Mouse Is it bad that I didn't even consider Keyboard/Mouse? I'm a PC gamer for certain, maybe even a touch elitist (FPS on a controller... pls...), but some games just don't work well with a Keyboard and Mouse. I assume they'd do something like Dark Souls PC: have keyboard controls of such terrible quality that only a Buddhist monk could tolerate them. Actually, typing that, I hope we don't get a Dark Souls PC situation. I could be wrong, but I don't see Tales getting a 'DSFix' a day after launch. Man, now I've got myself all worried over a port that might not even happen.

All joking aside, considering Namco wasn't the one responsible for the infamous Dark Souls PC port, performance problems are not really anything I'm worried about. I'm fairly sure there aren't many hardcore PC gamers that are fans of Tales series and have the skills to make a ToZFix, so if they do mess it up, it's gonna be bad. I have tried to play Dark Souls with keyboard only and it was pretty horrible. WASD for movement, IJKL for camera. I would Imagine even Buddhist monks would prefer the Guitar someone beat Dark Souls with. As long as they put a native gamepad support (Imagine if they won't...) it won't be a problem, at least for me. I play like 30% of my PC games with controller anyway.

www.abyssalchronicles.com/?fn_mode=comments&fn_id=1387So now that the PS4 and PC versions has been confirmed, what are everyone's thoughts on it? Even though I only care about the PS3 version, I am quite happy that their doing this. We also have a release date now. What perplexes me the most are the words "Bonus Content" on the top left of each version. It seems like it refers to the Alicia DLC, but I'm not sure.

I wish they had expanded on what any kind of differences might be. Like, say, 60 fps? Better view distance? Better graphics? Any changes at all? (Camera?)
I do agree that the bonus content is likely the Alisha DLC.
Why does Europe get it so much sooner? I recall this happening with Xillia 2, thought for whatever reason Xillia 1 came out first in NA. Is it so hard to just have a simultaneous release?

I'd be pretty disappointed if they released the PS3 version without any changes. They now have the opportunity to fix all those fairly obvious problems like the camera. Of course if they leave enough room for mods (I doubt it), some nice people might be able to fix those problems. That would be pretty lazy of them of course.
The bonus content can be only the Alisha DLC, but since they bothered to market it as "bonus content" (instead of just complete edition or something) we might get a bit more stuff.
There's some content-related rating stuff that might slow down NA releases, I can't think of any other reason why they would delay the release. Of course they could just release the EU version later to match the other releases.
I'm extremely hyped for the PC version, because it means it's possible to get Xillias as well. Also the PC release will open a new audience for Tales, which might boost their sales fairly significantly. Also the chances of getting more JRPGs on PC will increase too. Maybe Persona 5 too, so I don't have to buy a PS3/PS4 just yet!
The PS4 version means that they are transitioning to the next-gen, which was inevitable TBH. Of course it's nicer for people who have PS4. They could release it on Wii U too right?

I know 0 about Zestiria, but sometimes I think the differences come in with marketing and other games coming out in the same time frame that could potentially cannibalize sales? Just a thought. Or maybe it comes down to distribution methods and copies printed. idk. could be interesting to have on PC. I'm thinking of getting a laptop, because my only laptop is from work and chokes up on loading email. I've never really liked the heroines in Tales anyway, aside from Tear and Farah, so whatever on Alisha.

They could release it on Wii U too right? Really, really doubt it. Remember, Vesperia and Graces sold far better on PS3 than the 360 or Wii. If a mothership title does end up on the Wii-U, I suspect it will be an original game that will eventually see a Sony release as happened with Phantasia, Symphonia, Graces, heck even the handhelds had Innocence and Hearts R.

Looking through the Zestiria's steam page, I found some interesting stuff regarding multiplayer. It says the game has multiplayer AND local multiplayer. I think it might be just valve's messed up tagging and doesn't mean the game is going to have online multiplayer of any kind. Still, I found it interesting.
The first pre-order stretch goal has already been passed. I think I'll hop onto the pre-order boat once the second is gone as well. Getting a PC ver of symphonia on top of that is absolutely worth the 50€, even though Zestiria might not be worth the money. Here hoping people will keep the same pace in the pre-orders. Has there been a pre-order stretch goals on steam before? I can't recall seeing anything like this before.
EDIT: Apparently steam doesn't mention online multiplayer separately, it's only mentioned as "multiplayer" or "co-op". Local multiplayer is specified separately.
