I'll never forget when I first seen the preview for this in Game Informer I was so excited for this game to play as Lloyd again and see the gang all older and stuff.
BUT then the game came out and it was biggest disappointment. I couldn't believe it I mean I liked Emil....and marta? But the story was ehhh at best but the biggest problem with this game is how they treated the old cast which I'm sure a lot of you can agree with.
I have read many forums on this game and it has been deemed the worst in the series by most including me but I want to hear what you all have to say.

I thought it was kinda fun, but then again I wasn't that excited for it to begin with and only played it when Symphonia Chronicles came out. It's got some issues, but I think some people consider it a poor game because of the link to Symphonia. It's not a very good sequel, but I prefer to see it as a "what if" scenario that branches off from the original story rather than an actual continuation. It's not considered part of the main series anyway, so I was able to enjoy it for what it was.
I definitely get your disappointment, though. Symphonia was my favorite up until Vesperia, and I would've been really bummed out if I'd been looking forward to it as much as most people were, I assure you.

I've heard that it was originally supposed to be a standalone title, but they changed it to symphonia/phantasia world so it would sell better (since symphonia was pretty popular). I don't have any facts to back this up though. I have not played the game personally, but I've spoiled the story for myself already and I didn't think it was that bad. IMO it was better than Graces, from what I've seen. The biggest problem for me was the way they handled Lloyd just for the sake of extra drama. I didn't find Emil annoying at all (because I used to be like that) and some of the other cast wasn't too bad either. I really liked the way they handled the ending as well, probably my favorite tales ending. And that certain line Emil kept saying wasn't bad at all. It was supposed to be cliche. Overall I'd say it's around the same level as original Innocence. Great concepts but poor execution on some parts. (Maybe we need Knights of Ratatosk R? )

Yeah the whole thing with Lloyd was an annoyance I wanted that to be over as soon as the game started lol.
I would choose this story over Graces too just because it's easier to follow IMO and it actually had me emotionally involved a little bit.

"Worst in the series" is a pretty tall order considering how many less-than-stellar games there have been in the series (*cough*Destiny2, Legendia, Tempest, Graces, Zesteria*cough*).

I'd argue it's one of the worst games, but not the worst. Disappointment value plays a lot into this type of thing, and Zesteria felt like a punch to the face to me. Shows me to stay off the hype train.

I'm worried about ole Zesty mainly because the camera and honestly it's boring as hell to watch on YouTube I'm hoping that when I get my hands on it it'll be better.
But the disappointment value KILLED this for me man -__- ugh but I guess some people dislike Tempest a whole lot more than this one lol

I wanted to give this game a shot on Symphonia Chronicles... but I didn't see the ability to remap the buttons for combat. Thanks to Vesperia's (my first 'Team Symphonia' Tales) default controls putting B as attack and A as artes - defying the fact that every other game flips them when localized - I became accustomed to this. If 'O' can't be attack and 'X' can't be artes, it's a no go for me. Pity, because at the time I really didn't have anything better to do and could have given the game a fair chance.

While I consider this game a disappointment, I don't see it as a bad game. The combat felt wonky at times and the way they handled the original cast still leaves a bad taste in my mouth. But I can't say that I didn't enjoy myself.

I think the only problem I had with it was how the original cast was handled. I suppose this can lead into many separate issues though. I was just hard to see most of them be useless in battle and level capped. Overall though it's honestly very far from the worst when it comes to story or even battle system.

Disappointment factor + the fact that this game came out the same year (only a few months apart) as Vesperia really showed the flaws in this game. The fact that this game is meant to be a sequel to Symphonia, a game that I and many other Tales fans enjoyed a lot, only hurts it more. It screws up the plot of the game it is connected to, centers its plot on the issues of a whiny MC and his fickle love interest, and shoves the original cast and their abilities into a back corner. Not having a full human party for most of the game is also a problem for anyone who likes 3 or 4 player co-op in Tales, and the removal of the world map from the previous game was a huge disappointment for me and some others. They said they ran out of time, but I would have genuinely enjoyed this game at least a little more if they had the world map back. The color palette looks bleak and washed out compared to the vibrant original ToS, and the battle controls are...slippery and wonky.
I think that if this game had been its own thing, and unconnected to Symphonia, it'd just be a mediocre Tales game, but because it is an awful sequel, it drags its reputation down even more

Not sure if I would call it the worst, but it was pretty bad, yeah. I liked Symphonia, but tbh it didn't really impact the way I felt about DotNW. I came into the game with pretty low expectations, given that sequels often tend to be kind of iffy. I was expecting the game to be just OK at best. Wasn't expecting to hate it, though...
- ToS cast. I don't think they were integrated well into the plot at all. If anything, they felt awkwardly forced in, and the game suffered for it. honestly think the game would have been better off as a standalone. Battlewise, they were completely pointless. Because of the level caps, they were always incredibly underleveled relative to my party. I ended up just using my monsters instead.
- The new characters. I don't mind boring characters in RPGs, but irritating ones, not so much. Emil in particular was awful. I've had people argue that it doesn't make sense for me to like short-haired Luke and not Emil, but here's the thing--Luke was whiny and had low self-esteem, but he had a reason for it. Shit, I'd have some issues too if I went through what he did. The guy's relatable, and, what's more, he does eventually get things together. Emil? Not so much.
The terrible voice acting didn't help. I ended up playing the game on mute towards the end.
- Plot. I suppose it wasn't terrible per se, but it wasn't good, either. I found it was really hard to get invested in any of the plot's events when everyone new pissed me off. Again, the ToS cast felt shoe-horned in.
That being said, the bad ending was very satisfying.

I've heard that aside from being a cash-in on ToS's popularity, this game was made to resolve a supposed plothole between Phantasia and Symphonia, which I never really understood. The claim is that Phantasia's world doesn't rely on mana like it does in Symphonia, but I never found anything in-game overtly saying that it doesn't; part of the whole point was that magitechnology was destroying everything because it used too much mana. So yeah, this game has no reason to exist.

Definitely not the worst. I'd much rather play this than Graces f or Legendia. Really.

I think Tales of Symphonia Dawn of the New World is a great game. I'm playing it on the PlayStation 3. I've gotten farther than I was on the Wii version. I'd say that the PS3 version is easier to play than the Wii version. I like Emil and Marta. What would I do without Marta! She's awesome, helpful and really positive. I also have some things in common with her, like we're determined to have our ways, we have crushes that we love to please, same eye color, and same hair color (though I dye my hair dark red). I love how badass Emil gets when he's in Ratatosk mode and I wish I could be as tough as Ratatosk. I also have some things in common with Emil, like we're timid, had our moments, and I even feel like I have a split personality when I get angry or distressed. I won't consider it a bad game, but my brother didn't like that game all that much. I even like some of the new voices, like Genis's. I think Tales of Symphonia 2 could've been better, like titles with outfits (like in the original Tales of Symphonia, Regal had a chef outfit) and being able to name your monsters (for example, I'd name my imp Midna after the Midna from Legend of Zelda Twilight Princess). Tales of Symphonia Dawn of the New World is NOT a bad game!
