Hi there, I was wondering if someone could explain to me how to use these techniques better in Vesperia. I've known about Spell canceling for years, but never used it much in Vesperia (or in general), but I just learned about Guard canceling (also known as Manual Canceling) today. Whenever I cancel, I lose the combo count in the top right, but maybe this technique isn't about that, which is fine too. Just some general pointers would be nice regarding using these techniques efficiently. Here's a demonstration of where I'm at now with these two things (using Estelle and Flynn): www.youtube.com/watch?v=E0P3LmsNaJA&list=PLCKEQy7b7QI70f582gkscO3nfb8woEhJKThank you for your time

To be honest, I am not 100% sure what exactly you are asking. In your video you are using the technique correctly. All I can really say is practice it with more then 1 arte mix it up and do big combos. It's the fastest way to learn proper use of both techniques in my experience. Sorry if I wasn't much help I just didn't understand what you were specifically asking. Edit: Just wanted to clarify that when I said you were using the technique correctly I meant that you were performing it correctly not using it to it's proper advantage (just didn't want to cause confusion). Also would like to clarify that when I was saying do big combos I wasn't saying that GC should be used as a combo tool necessarily just that it should be used in combos for practice. Anyways, back to lurking.

Hard to discern what it is exactly that you're asking, but based on the context of your post I can clarify that guard/spell cancel is a multi-purpose skill. In my experience with Furen, spell cancel serves well to link artes that may not always combo through regular chaining. examples: - www.youtube.com/watch?v=NfASYGlTKpc ( first combo, rest of the video is unrelated) lots of spell cancel here. Gou Gurenken > SC > Souryuu Rengazan is the first example of it. without doing it, I wouldn't have been able to get Souryuu Rengazan on the frame to restand the enemy. I SC right after to go into the following arte because it's arcane and wouldn't chain after Souryuu Rengazan through regular arte chain. - www.youtube.com/watch?v=Wr3G_VXn-Dw ( A better showcase of SC/GC.) Combo benefits aside, SC is great for maintaining frame advantage over your opponent or canceling moves to get out of unpleasant situations.
Guard canceling, I feel it serves the same purpose as SC.Not sure if that was the kind of clarity you were looking for but I hope it helped if even a little!

Manual canceling is mainly a defensive technique, not an offensive technique like SC'ing. Manual canceling is used by experienced players to cancel end lagging frames. In some scenarios, you can continue a combo (Mainly after knockdown artes and good finger dexterity) but don't rely it on it for combo purposes.

One thing I like to do when I'm rusty at Vesperia is exercise my SC's and Manual Canceling / FRC's. Since you're using Estelle and Flynn you can try: Flynn: 3 Normals -> Tiger Blade (SC) -> Delayed (about 0.5 seconds) Normal (SC) -> Delayed Normal (SC) ..... 3 Normals -> Tiger Blade (FRC) -> Delayed Normal (FRC) -> Delayed Normal (FRC) ..... Estelle: 3 Normals -> Marche Waltz (SC) -> Delayed Normal (SC) -> Delayed Normal (SC) ..... 3 Normals -> Marche Waltz (FRC) -> Normal (Estelle is a bit slower so this attack can connect without the delay)(FRC) -> Normal (FRC).....
Most enemies can be attack while in the ground about 9 times.
And If you're doing combos, FRC's and SC's work best after knock down artes (like Clip said); my advice is to just play around with the character you like the most, since some artes can continue the combo even while the enemy is still up ( like Yuri's down normals -> cerberus strike (FRC) -> down normals ...)!
Hope this could help you in some way!
Also, what I call ''normals'' its the circle (default) attack, I'm not sure what the exact name is!
