I hit the scene where "Rising Up" plays, and I've been listening to it over and over ever since. It's so epic! Zestiria's story has been frustrating me, but "Rising Up" makes me feel a lot friendlier toward it. (And I understand the composer did the music for Legendia, which has me excited to eventually get to that game.) The song in question:

While I enjoyed the song, it's the only vocal track that I enjoyed from Zestiria's OST (there were only like, 2 or 3 anyway, but good lord, Journey's End is just bleh to me). I'm really not a fan of vocal songs in video games in general, even when I like the song in question (such as in this instance). Non-vocal songs or songs with a chorus can exist primarily in the background. That's not to say it isn't noticed - we can list dozens of songs that have forever imprinted themselves in our memory - but when you add vocals it draws attention to the song. I don't want to be distracted trying to figure out the lyrics - I want to be engaged in the scenario at hand.
Of course, I firmly believe that music is the most subjective form of art. "Essence of Adventure is Exploration" is still my favourite track on the whole OST, and that one is by the thoroughly criticised Sakuraba, so thptptptptptptptptptptpt.
But right, so yeah... Rising Up... it's good.

The context and timing were great, and I just love the song itself. I don't dislike Sakuraba's music in Zestiria, but most of the songs that really struck me were by Go Shiina. One exception is the Rayfalke Spiritcrest theme, which I also really love.

I really love Rising Up as well. I used to be vocal track disliker like you, but then I took Persona in my ear. Recently I've been looking for good vocal tracks in game soundtracks. Of course it is different from hearing them in-game but I feel like the lyrics somehow make them more memorable. And as a non-native english speaker I can look past engrish and otherwise unclear lyrics.
My favorite vocal track from Zesty soundtrack got to be the cat song. I have no idea when it plays, no idea about the name of the track but it is pure catnip. . . Ok not really but it's cool track regardless.
(I already feel bad for that arrow-knee joke.)
