Well, all I've been doing is listening to some good metal lately so I made this METAL thread. Talk about some good metal bands, your favorite metal genre, or help others out with some good bands.
Some of my favorite metal bands are the following:
System of a Down (First album had good elements of Nu-metal and Serj is just awesome.) Rage Against the Machine (Tom Morello and Zach are one of the best combos.) Metallica (Typically I like the older music and the newest, 80s and the newest album.) Avenged Sevenfold (Older albums where the actual good stuff is.) Bullet For My Valentine (I only like a few of their songs but they are good.) Incubus (The old funk metal is the best imo.) Nightwish (A good Finnish symphonic metal band but I liked them better when they had Tarja.) Crush 40 (I don't care how much people criticize Sonic, Johnny Gioeli and Jun Senoue own.) Hardline (Not much of a known band but I like it for their old guitarist and Johnny Gioeli's vocals.) Dio (Must I explain?) more which I have probably not listed...

I agree with Avenged Sevenfold (City of Evil's the best), System of a Down, and Nightwish. Haven't listened to enough of the rest to really give much of an opinion.
Other than that, there's Scars on Broadway (it's what Daron and John of SOAD started after SOAD went on hiatus), Killswitch Engage, Trivium, Serj Tankian as a solo artist is great, Slipknot, Korn, Disturbed, Godsmack's more mellow songs, Tenacious D... I guess I'm mostly into nu-metal, but I like traditional metal too.
I'm currently addicted to Babylon by Scars on Broadway. It's been stuck in my head for a week and it hasn't gotten old yet.
(In case you didn't know, I also love metal)

I'm not really that much into metal anymore, since my taste in music is usually a mood thing (one day I'm into funk, the next day I'm into surf rock, then the following day I'm into RnB, so on and so forth).
But there's one metal band I love so much, and it's X Japan. From the moment I heard their speed metal songs, I instantly loved the band.
Otherwise, when it comes to metal, I prefer to hear them in instrumental form.

I'm a very multi-genre guy, but for specifically Metal, nightwish is tops, then Rammstein, Lynch, Antic Cafe and a bunch of bands I listen to but don't know the names of >_<
(If anyone thinks antic cafe isn't metal, then they clearly haven't listened to candy holic, full blast, whilst playing racing games for an entire free period at school >_<)

Crush 40 is far from Metal, those guys steam of alternative. Not to say that they're bad, they're just not what comes to mind when I think "metal". As for my bands. Early A7X. Atreyu (except for Lead Anchor Paper Sails) Ice Nine Kills (second album only) It Dies Today Mudvayne (semi-fan, song dependent) Breaking Benjamin
some others.... Honorable mention to Daisuke Ishwatari and High and Mighty Color (latest album).
