Yeah, it's because the college receives exceptionally little state funding. It's one of the most expensive public colleges in the nation, if not the.
I feel sorry for Vermonters. Given how few people live in Vermont, I'm not sure if Vermont has other public college options if you can't afford that.

I'm starting to seriously consider minoring in art history. Everyone else finds the class extremely boring, largely thanks to the professor who keeps droning, rambling and referencing stuff people would have zero idea about, and I don't blame them for it. I'm probably the only one who's actually excited for the class (solely because I get to see artwork on the projector lol), and the one who answers the questions by default if nobody else could get the answer the professor asks. People started approaching me after class to ask me, to review, or to study with me. They told me they learned more reviewing with me for an hour than sitting in that class the past few weeks. Another thing to fall back on in the future, perhaps

Out of curiosity, which art period do you like the best?
My knowledge of art history is very little--well, rather, my knowledge of art is very sparse in general--but I'm quite partial to the art style of the Renaissance. And, being a Classics person, I of course enjoy the art style of the ancient Greeks and Romans. I love my wall murals and statues. Particularly statues.
idk if it's just me, but all of the drawings I've seen from the Middle Ages look kind of bad. Not a lot of attention paid to detail or body proportions. idk, that's just a layperson's appraisal.

Hard to call a favorite - there's always something in each period that I find fascinating. Nobody can argue against Classical and Hellenistic Greece, Roman Empire, and Late/High Renaissance though - they're definitely always my favorites. Other than those... at the present, I like Expressionism, particularly by stuff from Egon Schiele and Modigliani. I also liked Pre-Raphaelite influenced painters (I keep forgetting the names - I can only remember John William Waterhouse) for some reason. I actually love Medieval art. They're far from naturalistic, since they're quite far removed from classical influences and training, and they render the figures without actual direct observation, but despite that limitation, stuff like the Bayeux Tapestry (which is like one of the earliest comic strip lol), the Byzantine mosaics, and illuminated manuscripts are things of beauty. But yeah that's probably just me. As I've said earlier, I find really cool stuff in each period and movement The Rococo (late Baroque) kinda annoys me though.

Just emailed academic adviser regarding taking up a Digital Media minor on top of my already health-endangering BS/MS plan...Surely this cannot backfire in the least. I'll need to drop one of my co-ops unfortunately but it's 24 extra credits on top of the 40 extra credits I need to fulfill to get my Bachelor's and Master's at the same time.
On the upside -- co-op #1 starts the first week of April and runs nearly 6 months. I'll probably take one class over it to get a MS requirement out of the way but 6 months of making money and learning on the job sounds so much better than this past 10 week term. =w=
@suko: Aaaaah I wish I were more knowledgeable on art history. I can only recall Caravaggio in any detail since I did an art criticism project on The Taking of Christ a couple years back. More power to you =w=d

Unlike regular history, art history isn't as hard since you get tons of visual aid (or it's probably just me). I haven't touched upon Caravaggio yet. What are the stuff you discussed about him? What do you like about his art, and what are your criticisms? I just finished an art history test earlier. This is one of those tests where I'm sure I got everything right, and if I'm not the highest scorer, I'm going to have to choke a *****

I don't know if I should keep my Sociology class next quarter or not. If I keep it, I might learn something, but if I drop it I'll have more free time. There's no rush for me to take too many classes at once considering I know I have to go another year for my 2-year degree.

I'd take it. Looks bad to withdraw.
Here's something that bothers me about college--grade inflation. A 3.0 is a B+ average, which, theoretically, shouldn't be so bad, right? But employers won't even look at you if you have a sub-3.0, and at my college, people will make comments about how bad someone's GPA is if it's below that. B's aren't technically bad, but grading practices have apparently shifted so much that it's now considered a bad grade. Hell, the average GPA at my last college was a 3.4, and people complained how Wake Forest was "known for grade deflation" (I don't think that reputation is true at all, but I digress).
So, what does an A mean nowadays? Anything?

If I dropped the class, a "W" wouldn't appear on my transcript because the quarter isn't already underway.
Though, I actually hear the professor of the class is very liked and has a PhD, so it should be a quality class. I'll roll with it.

This is one of those tests where I'm sure I got everything right, and if I'm not the highest scorer, I'm going to have to choke a ***** It was for electronic art so the general idea was to read a book relating to an artist, find a piece and relate his life, his style and more thoroughly analyze a certain work. In the scale of things, it probably wasn't much of any sort of in-depth analysis. The book being "The Lost Painting"... It's been 2 years since: The use of chiaroscuro, as with much of Caravaggio's work, brings a great level of emotion to the expressions of each man depicted. The flow of the painting runs from right to left, as St. John is running off to the left while two soldiers and a man are looking off in that direction as well. The only figure not facing in the direction is Jesus himself. The darker shades of the soldiers' armor allow them to fall further into the background and provide greater emphasis to Jesus and Judas. A lot of the other notes were how certain elements drew back to the focal point of Judas giving Christ the traitorous kiss, color emphasis, etc...I don't think I have the paper/accompanying presentation on this computer though. I have to admit that I really don't have a particularly good mind in terms of analyzing art at all, but I remember coming out of that project really appreciating Caravaggio's work (and also just how batshit crazy and drunk he was) -- I remember taking him on for my project simply because, at first impression, I really liked the bold emphasis his style had.

I think you've analyzed it well enough there. I don't think it requires a good mind to analyze art, it just takes a good grasp of related terminologies Although lead may have contributed to his violent outbursts and early death, it may have also made helped intensify his art. When I did a term paper on the Sistine Chapel ceiling, it didn't feel like work typing it up as it is research based on pure interest I already made prior to taking the class. It was awesome that my professor kept that paper to be used as an example for future students on how to do an art-related research paper right ;D
