Well, my original post in the Single only thread was going to be about my lack of confidence, but I rewrote it and decided to make a topic here about confidence in general.
The question here is simple (maybe): What can help one boost confidence in oneself? I'm a rather pessimistic person, so any advice can help. (With changing ones outlook to be optimistic, sticking with it is difficult for me. Just a note.)

Go watch different super robot shows and tokusatsu, like Super Sentai or Kamen Rider.
... I'm serious. Really, it worked for me.

Try therapy.
For the record, I'm not trying to be condescending or patronizing or anything offensive. I mean it in the most genuine way possible.

TBH, i tried therapy and it actually made me more depressed and less confident (i actually had a nervous breakdown)
I got more confident by acting more happy to the people around me. They actually noticed and started treating me better and, by consequence, made me more confident about how i feel about myself. It really works, but it takes a while.

Study psychology. Just pick up a textbook from the library or something. Even use the Internet.
I personally consider a class on psychology a waste of time, but reading the adolescence section of a psychology textbook was very enlightening. It's cheap and interesting to learn about the weird human mind, if you ask me.

TBH, i tried therapy and it actually made me more depressed and less confident (i actually had a nervous breakdown) I don't know the circumstances so I can't really comment, but therapy's results are highly dependent on the therapist and the way they conduct therapy. You may very well just have had a quack who didn't know what he was doing. There are plenty of 'em who are just that. I'm not so sure reading psychology books is the absolute best way to go, actually. Or at least, not abnormal psychology. It's all too easy to read about this disorder or that disorder and think you meet the diagnostic criteria when in fact you don't. No good can come of that. Of course, there is something to be said for reading case studies of mentally ill people and thinking to yourself, "Well, damn, thank god I'm not that screwed up." It's horrible sounding, but true.

The song they sing in my school every friday:
"Believe in yourself Have faith in your dreams Believe in that feeling inside you. That dares to dream Such impossible dreams There are thousands of dreamers inside you Who plan the unplannable did the undoable Searched the unsearchable Mysteries Believe in yourself Have faith in your dreams And the world Will have faith in you"

I personally consider a class on psychology a waste of time So you've never taken a Psychology class, huh? Intro to Psych with DeMarzo was the single best class I took in high school. Classes aren't about presenting to you anything you couldn't find out on your own, they're about setting a direction for the student to learn.
