Hey everyone, I know i'm new and all but i'm going all over internet to post this page for a petition to localize Tales of Xillia in US and Europe. Just like Tales of Grace F, some fan made a petition. we have currently 2609 signature and we need more so i'm asking for your help. You just need to go to the website and sign the petition by entering your name and your e-mail adress. It already worked with ToG F so it could still possibly help the game to be localized. Hope you can help us by signing here : www.petitiononline.com/petitions/toxl6478/signatures?page=1

I assure you, it was not online petitions that localized Tales of Graces, but rather a profit-risk assessment by Namco-Bandai Games.

Not only that, but it doesn't matter how many signatures it gets. If Graces F fails in March, it's game over for Tales in NA

The best kind of petition is forking over $60 in March.

Just buy Graces F, buy a PS3 if needed. Fact of the matter is simply a reinforcement of the statement above, more profits from Graces, more likely for a Xillia localization. So for the sake of it, just say to the retailers "Shut up and take my money!"

Well it is a pity that Namco is being this mean to non-Japanese Tales series fans considering how other gaming franchise such as FF, LOZ, FE, KH make an English version available not much later than the initial Japanese release. Even Golden Sun, Valkyrie Profile and Lunar who have much smaller fanbase localize their games much more often than Namco's Tales series...

FF, LoZ, KH -> sell millions Tales -> sell maybe 200,000 at most
Not a fair comparison.
Can't speak for VP or Lunar because I know nothing about either, but GS has had a grand total of 3 titles released over almost the course of a decade, and Tales has had 12 main games and 15 side games over sixteen years, usually cranking out at least one or two a year.
Also not a fair comparison.

Valkyrie Profile has two games and a DS spin-off nobody played.
Lunar has two games for the Sega CD which got ported to the PSX, a remake of the first game for the GBA with some things changed, a port of the first game to the PSP with the original story but new graphics, and a god-awful DS game. Again, two unique games and a DS game no one played.
So, sure, percentage-wise those franchises beat Tales. But an awful lot more Tales games came out than those.
Completely unfair.
Oh, and Lunar 1 came out twenty years ago, just for a reference of the pace these games have been coming out. Moreover, Valkyrie Profile is a Square game. Slapping the Square name on anything RPG-related will jump the sales up a couple dozen thousand, period.
Moreover, well...
Fire Emblem not making people wait? You kiddin' me, pal? It was a full thirteen years before -any- of the games came out of Japan (for reference, it was three years between Phantasia coming out and Destiny hitting the US), and right now the last game hasn't even been announced for localization despite coming out July of 2010.

Well yeah Namco's tales series is indeed being a lot more productive than most JRPG video gaming franchise, but I do believe Quality > Quantity at this very moment. If a tales game sells only 200k or less, the more urgent thing to do is to improve the quality of the game and apply better marketing approach than producing more games to seemingly increase the total profit. The latter is quite important though, I personally consider Symphonia, Abyss and Vesperia to be on the same tier as the majority of FF and LOZ games, it was perhaps the poor marketing strategy that made such a difference in sales? Id rather Namco make a tales game once per 3-4 years than continue to rush the production of their games.

Well, you have to remember that RPGs are a niche genre. Even if you make the best game ever and cover every single ad space available in Times Square and places like it, you're not going to get more than a certain amount of buyers because most people just simply aren't interested in RPGs. How does FF get such high sales? FF had the fortune of being released at the right time in the right market, and managed to snag people who normally don't play JRPGs. It was a fluke. Had FF been released at any other point, I doubt it would be a stand-out series now. It just simply came out at the right time. As for LoZ, that's not even an RPG, so it's not fair to compare it to Tales.
Let's also not forget that Nintendo and SE can afford to pump out mass advertising campaigns in the first place. Namco Bandai can't. Sure, it's a big company, but it's not monolithic like the other two.
As for quality, I like Abyss a lot and it's probably one of the best RPGs I've played, but Symphonia and Vesperia? Absolutely not. I would argue that Tales games aren't as amazing as the fanbase would like to think.

I actually liked Symphonia until a sequel completely ruined everything. Moreover, Valkyrie Profile is a Square game. Slapping the Square name on anything RPG-related will jump the sales up a couple dozen thousand, period. Actually, VP is an Enix game. But I think Enix was doing pretty okay sales-wise before they merged with Square, even so.

I liked Symphonia a lot until I played better RPGs.
I don't think it's terrible or anything; it's just not the Holy Grail of RPGs. I had fun with it when I played it.

I've Prebought Graces and plan to get Abyss 3DS, really just so I can add to my tiny 3DS game library and to support the Tales series. So I've done my part.
