How would a modern setting affect the Tales series? I'm sort of curious to hear what other people think.
Now, if the rumors regarding the next game are true, it will have something to do with a modern setting based on a picture that apparently is of a "modern day city". Though the picture itself has not been shown, just imagine the possibilities.
This would not be the first time a classic rpg series has taken the path. Final Fantasy did this, and I have mixed opinions regarding that change. However, tales games have always contained a fair amount of modern/futuristic tech, so if it were to do something similar, the shift could be a lot less dramatic.

Modern as in futuristic? Not very interesting. Been done before.
Modern as in with today's technology? I think that would be very interesting, although I don't know how that would work with swords and magic.

I just thought about it today & I think it's perfect ^^
Like it'd be cool if the hero had a cellphone or an MP3 player, don't you think?
& why are we bothering about swords & magic ?
we can have them as usuall....
Like Persona 3, right?

That'd be amazing though, present day magic and melee

To be fair, Xillia's Elenpios(? or whatever its spelled) world looked pretty modern if I recall.

I've been avoiding Xillia like the plague to avoid spoilers. Maybe they've been going this direction for a while, especially considering graces had some very sci fi story elements

I wonder if they will ever take a very classic setting like Eternia's or Phantasia's in a new Tales game... I'm kinda unexcited about the hype of being "modern"
