Just talk about comedy in general. Are you a big fan of certain types of comedy? How about comedy shows or series? Favorite comedians, may they be actors, writers, or stand-up comedians? Why do you like them or find them funny? As far as favorite comedians go, here's my list: Patrice O'neal Colin Quinn Nick DiPaolo Bill Burr Greg Giraldo Louis CK Jim Norton Richard Pryor Dave Chapelle Russell Peters Joey Diaz All of my favorites are stand-ups now. And save for Pryor, Chapelle, Russell Peters and Joey Diaz, most of my favorites had been to or is a regular of "Tough Crowd w/ Colin Quinn", comedy/political commentary show that I wish Comedy Central would release DVDs for one of these days (at least most episodes are in youtube). And I find most of these who's been to Tough Crowd to be legit, since they can shoot the breeze and still be hilarious I used to love George Carlin, but so many people echo his thoughts and quote him without the funny attached (usually replaced with outrage, nihilism, or apathy instead) that it became old real quick. Dave Chapelle did legendary bits in his sketch show, but today, he's gone a little cuckoo for some reason, so not much is heard of him today. So what's your word on teh funny?

George Carlin is still my favorite comedian to date, mostly because his stand-ups were somewhat deviant and underlined real issues in a comedic light.
I also like Bill Burr and Steven Colbert. (I'll never forget Colbert's daring Bush roast.)

I've watched tons of classic sitcoms and lots of stand-up from CC. I love comedies.
I have to say Ben Bailey is one of my favorites.
I also watch talk shows such as:
The Daily Show The Colbert Report Conan Jimmy Kimmel Live The Late Show The Late Late Show
Also I've seen some old SNL episodes with Bill Nye the Science Guy.

Most comedians I don't find funny at all.
I love George Carlin, though.

Bill Burr is always hilarious, and his career highlight was definitely his infamous Philadelphia set during the Opie and Anthony Traveling Virus Comedy Tour 2006, where it was him VS the rowdy Philly crowd: And in that subject, Joe Rogan is legendary for putting hecklers in their place. EDIT: Any of you willing to try out for an open mic?

Damn, after seeing him more and more, especially in his broadway one man shows (Long Story Short and Unconstitutional), appearances, and his legendary twitter account... I would put Colin Quinn to probably the best living comedian right now, or at least is an unsung genius who is severely underrated in comedy. Other comedians share that view likewise (and having the distinction of being the only twitter follow Louis CK has, as well as being Jerry Seinfeld's best friend).

Yeah you listed most of the comedians I like sukotsuto, Dave Chappelle probably being at the top of my list. Louis CK is of course amazing, and I'm also a big fan of Steve Byrne.
Katt Williams, Eddie Murphy, Chris Rock, Kevin Heart, Gabriel Iglesias, Penn & Teller and probably some others. I used to keep a list way back when I watched Comedy Central stand ups.
Edit: Oh and I have to give props to Stephen Colbert, he's always hilarious, and that Alpha Dog of the week about the lady who "restored" a painting was gold.

Speaking of comedy, to those who are in LA, or going to LA... You can all see me in the Pig n' Whistle in Hollywood, at August 1 9PM, where I'll be doing a five minute set on the mic. I impulsively booked myself a stand up comedy spot, and this is the first time I'm ever going to do something like this I've never even done two-three minute open mic spots, and I'm up for five minutes? I think this is going to be recorded, so you will all likely see me bomb horribly

What sort of comedy do you guys prefer? I'm a pretty serious person and don't find most comedy funny I like subtle lampooning... the drier, the better.

So long as it's not hack, easy laughs comedy, like doing an accent the whole time (you can make anything funny by saying it in a mock accent) or shouting every word, throwing in a curse in between, to provoke an audience reaction. Dry sarcasm can be overdone, and fake edginess is irritating. The more honest the comedy is, the more hilarious it is for me.

I guess you don't like Dane Cook, then! He employs the "if I just tell more loudly and repeat myself several times, it's hilarious!" technique :'D
The only skit of his I liked was the Karen one, about the person nobody likes.

Not a fan of Dane Cook, but I don't hate him at all. He's a great crowd guy that started with other great comedians I love (Patrice O'Neal, Robert Kelly), and other comics respect that a lot. It's just that his material had good timing of being popular for the college-age kids in the myspace era and was able to capitalize on it like crazy. His popularity dropped off after that when these same kids started discovering other comedians like George Carlin, Joe Rogan, Bill Burr, etc. When people started noticing Dane may have stolen some material (intentionally or unintentionally) from other comics (particularly Louis CK), people started losing respect for him, yet even with that, he can still easily sell out venues.
That said, his buddy and middle act, Robert Kelly, I find way more funnier.
