Well, I'm sort of new to this whole sorta thing.
I had my eyes invested on an Elgato, but a friend of mine told me that the newer editions were designed for higher end PC's. My laptop is pretty garbage (has a hard time rendering anything in 3DS Max) and has one core.
Meanwhile, my PC has a dual core (both are intel cores). I'm not sure how much I would need to specify, but I would like to know of any sort of recommendations you guys may have. I'm really trying to avoid getting a dazzle because if anything, it's going to make me wish I had something better.

Since I've only ever used a Hauppauge HD PVR 2, I can't really recommend anything else. It's got HDMI output for Xbox, but PS3 requires component, which means the quality suffers a bit. It also supports HDMI for PS4 and XBone, once they start becoming relevant. Fairly easy to set up, and I don't think it's too taxing for the PC, either. You can check the recommended specs on Hauppauge's website just in case, though.

I should have specified earlier that I wanted something a little more versatile. I'm into a lot of retro stuff and I wanted something that supports older components. I have considered the Hauppauge HD PVR 2, but I don't have an HDMI cable for my PS3 (could invest in one, but I want to do a little more than that).
Quality does play a huge factor, but as long as it isn't blurry like the dazzle is, (my friend has a dazzle and the quality is really fuzzy) I should be good.

Did some digging, and the Hauppauge does support (some) older consoles as well. I've yet to try it myself, but this video details the process pretty well. Does require some messing around with cable splitters, however, so be prepared to shell out some extra cash on that if you end up going with it. As far as quality goes, it looks perfectly fine, though it might not be what you're looking for. The colors are a bit less vibrant, and the image becomes somewhat grainy. Submitting one of my videos as an example, if you want to see how it looks once it's been uploaded and converted by YouTube.

Should shoot in here when it's done. I'm interested to see what the quality looks like for you.
