DEAR GOD!!! Are you all serious?! 40 hours?!?! That's freakin' Dawn of the New World all over again!!!!! I can't believe this... This is like when the Twilight Princess developers said their game would be 100 hours long, later becoming a game that could easily be beaten under 50.
Has anyone else taken longer?? T______________T

Dawn was around 25hrs. Took me 38hrs and I think 27min for my first Graces, with few sidequests. Around the same Hearts and Rebirth took me. And probably Vesperia, but I don't have the exact number. I believe the 70hrs thing can be reached by doing all sidequests.

As stupid as this sounds, It probably would have taken longer if you could read it, because instead of skipping through loads of dialogue you didn't understand, you would have taken the time to read it cause you understood it and that would have made the game longer...? Yeah, I don't know, nevermind. I'll shut up now =.= *pikohan'd*

I was milking the crap out of Vesperia, trying to make it last as long as possible for my first playthrough, and I ended up with about 90 hours. Dawn of the New World took me about 44 hours, but again, I was tryin to make it last. I wasn't doing every Katz quest I possibly could or anything, but I did do several of them and was going out my way to do other stuff as well.
I judge a game's hour length by the amount of time it takes on a first playthrough. Once you know where everything is and where to go and how to achieve them, you could probably beat it in no time. I spend 90 hours on Vesperia my first time through, but it can be completed under 15 hours to get one of its Achievements.

For me, it's the contrary: the second playthrough usually takes longer. It's true that I know where to go (though with Graces you already know where to go on 1st play thanks to the Z button), but I'm so impatient to know the story that I rush as much as possible. In a second playthrough, I take my time, grind, master skills, do sidequests, explore every corner of every dungeon etc... which considerably increases the gaming time. Which is good. The first playthrough usually serves to get a general feel of the game, and the second and later ones are what really builds it for me. So they're the ones that count, for me. I just love second playthroughs<3

Similar with Yutalia. I'd rather go and enjoy the story first before I beat the technicality of the whole game through side quests, secrets, and other things in the next playthrough. It's strangely rewarding.

Well symphonia took me 65 h on my first playtrough and 80 on my second. Almost the same with other tales~~~
Anyway, when you take your time to read all dialogue, gettin' some exp and doin many subquest and all, 55-65 hours is easy to get.

There's something magical about it. ^__^ And once it's over, it's over, and it's never going to be the same again. That's why I try to make my first playthrough last as long as possible. The Tales series being my favorite, this especially goes for them. :3 So yea, I guess let me know how long your second playthrough lasts, hehe, cuz that'll prolly be how long it'll take me on my first ride through the game. =]

i would go with Yutlia' preference. i usually enjoy the 2nd playthough more than the first. although, i try to make both last as long as possible by doing side quest and stuff...

agreed with yutalia, i always play like that. XD usually the 2nd playthrough means a lot more especially when i try to do all sidequests.
