Hey, I just got an Xbox 360 and naturally, being a Tales fan, I considered getting this game. So I want some of your opinions.
Of course, I downloaded the demo off Live Arcade, and tried it out, but... The gameplay, to me, felt incredibly slow. Maybe it's just the demo, but Tales of Symphonia: Dawn of the New World felt much much faster than this. Do battles get faster in the actual game, or does it always keep this slow pace?
As well as the story, I watched the first couple of cutscenes on Youtube and it all just felt very disconnected and unmotivated.
Should I still give this game a chance, or is it not worth it if I can't enjoy the bits I've played and seen?

I would definitely recommend getting it.
Although I don't think it can match ToS or TotA story-wise, I had much more fun playing it, for some reason. I didn't think the battles were slow, but it probably depends a lot on who you want to play with. I've heard non-Tales people complain about Yuri pausing between his strikes, but as far as I know, that's normal for the series.
Also, I had the great pleasure to play with yutalia and it works much better than in older Tales titles.
I don't know what you like about other Tales titles, so your mileage may vary, of course.

This is actually my favorite Tales, X3 so I'd definitely say yes! All of the characters are easy to love, in my opinion, if you dig deep into their personalities and interactions. There's a lot to figure out about them, and I think that's really cool. <3 I don't find the battles slow at all, actually. ; That's probably the last word I'd use to describe them, haha. The artes are beautiful, it's easy to spam, XP and overall I just find combat actually a joy. I'd avoid battles sometimes in Abyss and Symphonia, but I found myself actively seeking them out in Vesperia! :3 I would highly recommend it, really. It's Tales, where can you go wrong? ;3

Well, I might as well give this a chance. I was going to go to GAME (EU's GameStop) this weekend and return some games anyway, so I can see if I can find this cheap.
So far I'm really not impressed, though. Graphics are decent, and I already said what I think about the story.

I'll agree that ToV certainly movees much slower story-wise, but it's more a case of DotNW being shorter than Vesperia, not necessarily Vesperia being slow. XD
The battles will kind of work out the same way too, at first it's just the same LMBS with a few touch-ups to the artes, arena's and style. once you get into a comfortable stride around lvel 15 or so, the game starts to speed up as you collect skills, get more familiar with your preferred artes and start to identify more with the battle system. I'd say give it fair chance and see if you still feel the same way ocne you've fought Zagi a few dozen times. XD
Of course my opinion isn't exactly as valid as the other members here, I lack a 360 as well as the money and permissions for another console, so I've only played the 360/PS3 Demo's and occasionally I frogmarch one of my friencds through his EU copy when I visit him. XD
And GAME is pretty popular in Europe, but around here, it seems more like Gamestation is Britiain's flagship gamestore, though they have the same conglomerate owner anyway. XP Nice to see another European fan though. <3

Well yeah, I saw that. But said you agreed about the story moving slow in comparison to DotNW, but I only compared DotNW to Vesperia's gameplay.

Uh, sorry? I didn't mean to offend anyone. I was just confused because nobody compared Vesperia's story to DotNW, but Strangelove agreed with somebody about the former's story being slower than the latter's, so I thought (s)he'd misread my post. I'm sorry if my posts were insulting.

XD If you have any more questions, we'll try to answer and at the end of the day, gamestation will still give you a good deal on tradeins if you really don't like it. XD But if you're a tales fan, you'll probably find this to be one of the better choices in the library.

Yeah, I appreciate the information. I went to GAME today, actually. I was going to get Vesperia, but I couldn't find any used copies and only one new copy... But it cost 62£... Seriously. That's way too expensive for a game, (price increased due to Sweden + price increased due to GAME) so I just picked up a used copy of Eternal Sonata instead.

Eternal Sonata is a good game too. xD Also by Bamco. (y)
That's a common problem with European Tales games, if you can find them, they still aren't cheap. XD When I wanted to buy ToS, it had been out for 4 years, and I still had to pay more than the launch price to get it even pre-owned, though it was mint condition. XD (Ironically, I got a Mint condition Mint Figurine for around £20 at londonexpo.)

I'm kind of confused. You went to the store and Vesperia was too expensive, so you picked up Eternal Sonata, which has a timed turn-based battle system.
Seeing as one of your priorities or major criticisms on Vesperia was how slow the battle system is, I'm guessing Eternal Sonata is going to drive you nuts. It also has worse graphics than Vesperia, and it's much shorter story-wise as well.
Vesperia may have been more expensive, but it seems like all the things that had you doubting Vesperia are worse in Eternal Sonata. I would have just waited and saved up the money to get the game that had a battle system that's quicker, longer story, and better graphics.
I don't get it, but. Okay. XD Your choice, your money. That being said, I still do really love Eternal Sonata, <3 I'm enjoying it a lot (I got it for Christmas). I suppose I just don't get how you made the leap from ToV to that, given what you wanted.
