Since it is a new year, it's good to take the time to reflect on the previous year. What you leave behind will strengthen your resolve for what you see before you. Make it in an award format, since this is a list of the greats. You can add or remove categories as you see fit. It's based on DISCOVERY, not release. If you never watched Cowboy Bebop, but finally got the chance to watch it this year, then it qualifies. Honorary Mentions are for things you just want to mention that surprised you, or you found interesting, but not something that you would give an award for over the others. Best Anime (This is one that you consider to be the best you saw this year.) Canaan Being awesome, well animated, and a rarity nowadays. Runner up: Elfen Lied Best Manga (This is the one you are either collecting or started collecting that you consider to be a perfect choice): Peacemaker Well done. Runner up: xxxHolic Best Main Character (The lead character you liked the most.): Battler Ushiromiya (Umineko no Naku Koro ni) Runner up: Kimihiro Watanuki (xxxHolic) Best Male Character (The best male character, in general): Tenchi Masaki (Tenchi Muyo!) Runner up: Chief Kakuzawa (Elfen Lied) Best Female Character (Best female character, in general): Senjougahara Hitagi (Bakemonogatari) Runner up: Canaan (Canaan) Honorary Mention: Seto Kamiki Jurai (Tenchi Muyo) Best Scene (The best scene or event you saw or read): Canaan - Liang Qi's Final Scene Runner up: Umineko no Naku Koro ni – Battler's Parents vs. Belphegor and Leviathan Best Art - Anime (The one you consider to have the best art): Canaan Runner up: Bakemonogatari Best Art - Manga (The one you consider to have the best art): Peacemaker Best Animation (The one that had the best animation): Bakemonogatari Runner up: Canaan Best Opening (The best looking opening, and the one with the best music. Can be both.): Canaan Music: Umineko no Naku Koro ni – One Winged Bird Best Ending (The best looking ending, and the one with the best music. Can be both.): Umineko no Naku Koro ni Music: Tenchi Muyo! In Love – Alchemy of Love Best Dub (One you consider to have the best English dubbing. Note: They exist. Also, I'm sure no insults will be tolerated.) Elfen Lied Runner up: Tenchi Muyo Yeah, I didn't bother with descriptions this time. These are just my choices. 20072008

From January 2009 to December 2009, yes. They can be from any year, but it must have been watched or read by you, specifically, during that time frame.

No, I understood it could be whatever anime and manga.
Hrm, that makes it rather difficult. The only anime I can really remember watching for the first time this year was Toradora. I can't really remember starting any manga this year. I guess Rosario + Vampire. Oh, I watched that too, but that sucked so... Ah well, whatever. Maybe I'll watch and read more stuff this year. I'll keep a list.

Best Anime: Brave Exkaiser (1990-91) The former King of Braves (Who is also the prodigal Brave) managed to beat out the current reigning one in my heart. It's an earnest, straightforward Super Robot show with a lot of heart and great characters. Runner up: Eureka seveN
Best Manga The Skull Man (Shimamoto's version, 1998-2001) An excellent take on Ishinomori's dark hero. Runner up: 20th Century Boys
Best Main Character Exkaiser (Brave Exkaiser) Runner up: Casshern (Casshern Sins)
Best Art- Anime Casshern Sins Runner up: Brave Command Dagwon: The Boy with Crystal Eyes (While the actual OVA is awful, the redesigned Try Dagwon suits look great)
Best Animation Casshern Sins (2008-2009) Runner up: Eureka seveN (2005-2006)
Best Opening
Best Ending
Best Dub- Ultraman (1966-1967- Not anime, I know) I didn't really watch many dubs this year, but I listened to some of this on my dvd set. Quite good.

Ugh, I don't know why I bothered labeling Umineko as my "favorite watched of the year." I finally sat down and finished it, and whether it was time or disinterest that ruined it for me, I was rather underwhelmed by the ending. So I changed it.

I watched a ton of anime this year, but it seems that I can't really decide in the end...>_>;; Best AnimeTokyo Magnitude 8.0 (It got be seriously bawling in the finale...and I give it props for that) Runner up:Aoi Bungaku (With about 20 more series that I really want to add here too XD; Best MangaTegami Bachi (Letter Bee) Runner up:Pandora Hearts Best Main Character Kuronuma Sawaku from Kimi ni Todoke (D'aaaaw~ It's so cute seeing her open up and make friends. How the hell can anyone not want to hug her?) Runner up:Lag Seeing from Tegami Bachi (Though I admit that he's quite a crybaby, the way he doesn't mind bawling his eyes out is so cute and it really shows that while he does star in a Shounen manga, he's still just a little kid.) Best Male CharacterHIGH TENSION TAXI DRIVER from CANAAN (I'm sorry, but I had so much fun watching him...XD; Runner upFiro Prochainezo from Baccano! (Though I'm late on this series due to watching its dub on Hulu just recently, I do have to say it's made me really scared of trains now...I did enjoy Firo's character very well since he has that "nice guy but still quite serious" air about him.) Best Female CharacterKobato from Kobato. (It's not often that I go for a sweet character like her, but over the course of the story, I've developed such a soft spot for her.) Runner up:Suou Pavlichenko from Darker than Black 2: Ryuusei no Gemini (I'll probably get chewed out for this, but I really grew to like her over the course of the season. T'is a shame it ended about as well as the first season...>_>; Best Scene The ending of the "Hell Screen" episode for Aoi Bungaku Runner up:Senjougahara and Arararararagi's (oops I stuttered) date in Bakemonogatari episode 12 Best Art - AnimeEden of the East (Wonderful cityscapes and a number of non-static backgrounds...yay~) Runner up: Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood (It cleans up the few complaints I had about the first series quite well) Best Art - Manga Tegami Bachi (It's very detailed for a manga of its type and the way the world is set up is quite beautiful...adds that the color pages look super-wonderful too.) Runner up: Pandora Hearts Best AnimationCANAAN (Though the plot was lacking, P.A. works did wonderfully with the animation...some of the best fight scenes of the year.) Runner up:Darker than Black 2: Ryuusei no Gemini Best Openingmind as Judgement by Faylan (CANAAN) Music: Ano Hi Time Machine by LONG SHOT PARTY (Zoku Natsume Yuujinchou) Though I'll give a shout out to Basquash! here for some genuinely catchy music and the wonderful idol-group "Eclipse"~<3 Best EndingKimi no Shiranai Monogatari by supercell feat. nagi (Bakemonogatari) Music: Lacrimosa by Kalafina (Kuroshitsuji) Best Dub Spice and Wolf Runner up:Baccano! (...Firo's New York accent got the best of me)

Sirth: Dude, did you finish the Tenchi series? Glad you liked Tenchi Masaki! I really liked the dub to that series myself; thinking about the series makes me want to watch it all over again. :3

Sirth: Dude, did you finish the Tenchi series? Glad you liked Tenchi Masaki! I really liked the dub to that series myself; thinking about the series makes me want to watch it all over again. :3 Somewhat. I only have two of the movies from Universe left to watch. Not bothering with Tenchi in Tokyo. Somehow, the best term I had for the dub is 'natural.' At least, I couldn't help but think it sounded more natural compared to now.

At least, I couldn't help but think it sounded more natural compared to now. Yeah, I wasn't really big on Tenchi in Tokyo. The characters just seemed so... out of character. :E And the art style was pretty bleh. >< To actually address the topic: Best Anime: Ouran High School Host Club: Hilarious. I don't think I've ever enjoyed a comedy anime this much. Runner Up: School Rumble: Not quite as awesome as Ouran, but almost. Best Manga: Um, Ouran. Lol... Runner Up: Higurashi no Naku Koro ni: Never really gave this series (the manga version) a chance because of the ecchi. >> Aside from that, the manga is much more detailed than the anime, and sadder at times. The anime still has its perks, but the manga gives the anime watchers a whole new reason to visit the little town of Hinamizawa. Read the visual novels, they're awesome! Now available in English, some of them at least.
