Ok, I've got answers for 2 and 3
2/ No, DO NOT GET A PSP GO. Depending on where you live, the PSShop will have different games to download, yet many of the older games are not available on the shop (like Radiant Mythology). They shrunk down the screen and moved the controls to a pop out thingy on the bottom, I've tried one, it just doesn't feel right. Also, its internal memory is limited at 16 Gbs, and if you want lots of games, it'll take more space than 16 gigs, meaning you'll have to get extra memory cards anyway. They made PSP games downloadable in the shop for the GO, yet you can download them unto a normal PSP too if you wanted to. It would also be cheaper to purchase a normal PSP and 16 gigs worth of memory. Additionally, if a local store is having a sale on games, you would not be able to take advantage of that as you are limited to buying games off the PSShop. In short, the normal PSP does everything the Go does, but for cheaper.
3/I don't exactly know which way of playing PS1 games you are referring to, but I will explain them both. If you want to play games through "Custom Firmware" you'd want a PSP with an early firmware to make installation easier. If you can find a brand new 2000 or 1000, that would be best. Not the GO though. . . If you want to play games more. . . . legitimately, you can use any type of PSP, but you would need a PS3 and the original disc for the game. The process you'd do that would be through "Remote Play". You can also wait for PS1 games to come out with CLASSIC status in the shop, but selection is very, very limited.
Hope that helped

I have an answer for 2. and 3.
2. Never buy one. it said ti be easy to break when you accidentally bend it and it has a detachable spring that can break that psp go
3.you need popsloader for that. Every popsloader has its own custom firmware but you need to download a psx game and also a popsloader
