I've played the first three (KH, CoM & KH2) and BBS only, the others just didn't seem worth getting :/
I am getting DDD since it is a lead in to 3 though.

I hear 358/2 Days is basically just fanfiction in video game form. No one I know has anything positive to say about it.

I couldn't finish Days, it was just too repetitive, over time it just wasn't fun.

Yeah, the gameplay didn't seem very interesting from what little I played. Lots of repetitive missions.
My friend tells me the multiplayer is good, though. I'll have to give it a go someday.

To be honest I find that the direction KH is going in, what with it's complex and convoluted story, Disney worlds and characters are feeling REALLY out of place now. In KH1 Sora's character design was really goofy and went well with Disney's designs. With the addition of new plot related things, I'm starting to feel that Disney has no place in KH anymore.

I know that feel, but at the same time I feel that the original storyline and its characters is easily the worst part of Kingdom Hearts. It's basically two wholly incompatible games at this point, thematically and tonally.

It's basically two wholly incompatible games at this point, thematically and tonally. I think I can see that. The original game feels totally different from its spin-offs... far more whimsical and childish. The darker, anime feel of the current games clashes with the silly Disney element. To be honest, though, I never really cared for either the Disney or Final Fantasy elements in KH to begin with. The plot and characters, while not bad, just don't do anything for me, really. I like KH well enough, but it's definitely one of those games I played just because I really liked the gameplay.

I think it's about time for Nomura to retire.
the next KH should be the conclusion...

KH3 is the conclusion of the Xehanort saga. Now that Nomura mentioned 'saga'... Means many years of games still to come. I hope the next MC doesn't have Sora-syndrome.

Nah, Nomura said Sora's still going to be the main character.
But, yeah. The story has gotten pretty stupid. For KH1, it started out simple, and fun. Disney worlds felt a little more relevant. Heck, the story actually felt like a Disney movie. Even CoM felt like it knew what it was doing (even though the gameplay itself was awful). Then, KH2 and onwards felt like Nomura was just coming up with things on the fly, and it was just miserable. In the hands of a competent writer, that kind of thing may not be a problem. But, Nomura isn't very compotent. Honestly, I really, really don't like how the writers at Square Enix are lately in general. The only thing they can do for Kingdom Hearts' story is wrap up what they had, and learn from their mistakes for their next title.
Nomura's a decent developer though. I enjoy the gameplay for most of the titles quite a bit. Just...keep him far away from ever writing the script.
