Simple enough: just post whatever article you're reading right now here, may it be a news post, a review, a featured article, a blog post, etc. Anyway, this is what I'm reading right now: Book review – Shooters: The Toughest Men in Professional WrestlingI'm a big fan of legit, old-school catch-as-catch-can wrestling, during the time when there are wrestlers who can actually wrestle and apply real locks and chokes (they're usually called shooters, as a "shoot" means a wrestling match turned into a real fight) and not the entertainment nonsense we see today. Learning about these old-school wrestlers and how legit they are made me realize and appreciate western martial arts, and how they were actually very effective, we just disregarded them throughout history.

Ooh, this is my kind of thread. I'm always reading articles. news.yahoo.com/york-city-micro-apartments-aim-cozy-not-cramped-230043164.htmlI'd live in a place like that. My one problem with Manhattan is that it's so prohibitively expensive. I mean, we're talking $2,000+ a month being a pretty reasonable price for a small studio apartment. I'd gladly live in a closet-sized apartment to save money... it's not like I need that much space anyway. Give me a fridge, a place to sleep, a toilet and a shower, and we're good to go.

"Unrealistic" concepts in Karate okiblog.com/2011/10/unrealistic-concepts-karate/I'm always for anything practical when it comes to martial arts (that's why MMA has a huge draw on me), and even though I tend to say a lot of crap about traditional martial arts (and their impracticality), I believed they were once effective at the time they were discovered and used, but had become crappier each generation thanks to students after students misunderstanding the basics and doesn't even bother to change a thing to improve (and just mimic what they see), then teach the same misunderstanding to the next generation students. I know the history behind most of these martial arts (and not the supposed BS histories... only the confirmed/semi-confirmed history, which are way more interesting), and it's one of the most fascinating thing for me to look up and research ever.

news.yahoo.com/fat-pride-challenges-supersize-stereotypes-101132595.htmldumb article, irritates me Some of the people in the article are really naive, going as far as to complain that the medical industry is pathologizing obesity. Of course obesity is pathological, you dolts. Anyone who tries to argue otherwise is neck-deep in denial. It's not like obesity is highly correlated with heart disease, certain types of cancer, diabetes, and arthritis or anything... I'm also not really sympathetic to this thingyinson guy's complaint that our society has "this horrible, obsessive anxiety about weight issues," honestly. Is it really that horrible or obsessive when obesity is one of, if not the, leading indirect causes of death? People aren't just mildly overweight in our country, but often flat-out obese, and the health effects are showing. I'd damn well be worrying about it. There's nothing wrong with being comfortable with your own fatness, but let's not dismiss the actual realities of obesity here.

The media always has flawed perspectives on how healthy and fit should look like. Having washboard abs does little to strength, and getting it out in a way that's supposedly visually pleasing means dehydrating yourself, which is what bodybuilders do on competition day, taking diuretics and all. And girls being skinny is not sexy unless they're naturally skinny, even so, a lot of guys actually prefer curvy girls anyway, not those skinny, bony models. A certain level of fat on your body, even if you're a bit chubby, is fine and is actually healthy, especially if you don't sit all day and actually move. But being proud of being morbidly obese, let alone being fat? Instead of denying it and being "proud" of it, why not deal with it? And by dealing with it, not ingesting those stupid pills or nonsense like that, but actually getting off their seat, watch their diet, and just move around. It's hard to lose weight, but if they don't start now, it'll never come off. After all, even if they don't consider it a disease or disorder, it might still be considered either one of those, since it will lead them to a disease or health disorder that will kill them, and makes it even harder to lose weight. Heck if you find yourself being terribly nauseous and vomit after a few minutes of exercise, it usually means it's working. Your body wasn't used to that much activity, so that's the body's way of adjusting, but it won't be like that forever - it will be replaced with this feeling of euphoria once you've worked out long enough. Anyway... books.google.com/books?id=5nMRAQAAMAAJ&lpg=PA202&ots=A-nALjNN4b&dq=The%20Japanese%20Art%20of%20Jiu%20Jitsu%20American%20Monthly%20Review%20of%20Reviews&pg=PA202#v=onepage&q=The%20Japanese%20Art%20of%20Jiu%20Jitsu%20American%20Monthly%20Review%20of%20Reviews&f=falseOld school article on Japanese Jiu Jitsu... which was how most westerners called it during that time before it was called "Judo". I like how older, early 20th century publications write and compliment something ;D

Jeez, the Philippines just seems to get pummeled every year. I never really feel like you hear about the other southeastern Asian countries being flooded like that. Just the Philippines. www.theverge.com/gaming/2012/8/3/3216950/the-sims-3-seasons-lets-you-control-the-weather-in-multiple-waysLooks like the Sims 3 Seasons was announced! I wonder what expansion the fanbase will beg for now that their darling expansion has at long last been announced... I personally thought the inclusion of weather was really boring and not worth my 40 bucks the first time EA included it, but I seem to be in the minority on this. Oh, well. Okay, never mind, this expansion pack actually sounds interesting. The Sims 2 Seasons expansion pack was really stupid and had almost no content (green-skinned "plant Sims," oh, yay), but this expansion pack actually has stuff. Hmmm. I am tempted. Quite tempted, actually. Goddammit, now I want to play the Sims.

This article by Tom Bissell on his paired addictions to GTA IV and cocaine. Interesting stuff.
