Ever done anything for charity, or did charity or volunteer work? If so, to what, and why?
I'm having problems doing anything charitable, since I don't believe in most of it. Before I can give anything to any group or charity, I have to honestly care about it and not pretend to give a crap about what they're about. Society, or university transfer requirements, pressure people into doing charity work, but I always feel deep inside most of them, if they're not having fun doing it or with friends or they don't know anyone affected by something related to what the charity is giving to, they actually don't give a crap about the charity itself, and how they're going to "feed starving children" or "help people with _________ disease".
And one main reason I rarely ever give to charity is that I don't like middlemen. I want whatever help I'm giving to go directly to the person I'm supposed to help. I mean, after hearing how charity meant for the starving children of Africa are going to the African warlords instead, (as they use the food, water, and money they receive to expand the warlord's army) who knows where the money actually goes.
Personally, I prefer charity with the people who are already next to you (like friends and family), since I feel that's the greatest charity of all, instead of giving a lot of money to some charity for the tax deduction and the compliments of the people around them as they say how they donated to "this" or "that" charity. I mean, why throw $1000 to some organization without any idea what they're going to do with that money (you know, like fill their own pockets legally by skirting around some loophole in the system) when I can just give that $1000 to a buddy who needs it. At least I have a better idea on where that money will go.
As for the charity I give to... I did give to Red Cross one time. And I gave bus change for people who really need it! I actually got to befriend and acquaint with people doing the latter lol.
