I'm fairly sure at least one is going to be a mothership title, considering the money and effort put into the Zestiria engine, which is one of the best-looking JRPG engines. I have no idea what those titles might mean, but for some reason Berseria sounds like a console title to me. Alestia sounds like a mobile thing.
Good to know they haven't scrapped the tales after the massive negative feedback Zestiria's japan release. At least some publishers know one flop doesn't mean the whole series is doomed.

There was no way the little rage-fest from Zestiria would be enough to pull the plug on the entire series. They survived the PS3 Vesperia fiasco, they'll keep churning Tales out until sales no longer justify development cost. Plus, DLC pulls in nice profit from what I'm guessing.

Why do they all end in "ia"? I hope none of them end up as a mothership title, seeing as we just got Zester(ia). Which isn't to say I don't want them considering the next major release, but I mean:
Vesperia Zesteria Berseria
Ew... (there's also Symphonia, but it doesn't fit as well)
As you said, who knows how they will actually pan out, what with phones and handhelds being the majority of the market in Japan. If I had to pick one, I think 'Alestia' is my favourite.

I wouldn't be too surprised if the next major Tales is announced. Wouldn't be the first or last time Namco announced new titles right off the bat.

I meant more for the sake of the name rather than the sake of timing, though really I think announcing a new game already would be completely bonkers. I get that they might want to shove Zesty under the carpet as quickly as possible, but this is still way too soon if it's another console game. They are kinda overdue for an original handheld title though. I don't know much about the handheld titles, but I see a lot of love for Seventh Chord. Perhaps they could just give them a go at an original handheld title, giving the main team time to work on the next game.

Yeah, at least Phantasia and Symphonia are actual musical terms and it makes sense for them to have similar names considering the story connections. But Eternia, Legendia, Vesperia, Xillia, and Zesteria all sound ridiculous and the "-ia" suffix has become a joke at this point.

My mind must be so completely fried right now, because it didn't even dawn on me that there were that many...

If the suffix actually held any kind of meaning it went clean over my head.

They fulfilled that with Innocence and Hearts, but I guess sales were disappointing so the project was dropped. Tempest R was suppose to come with what I assume a complete story rehaul/retcon to fit in the tri-verse plot and round it out, but who knows. Or do Tempest R and a fourth game to round out the tri-verse plot (doubtful) However, with the localization of Hearts R I would assume Namco still has some kind of interest in finishing the project. I do know Seventh was busy with that Kamen Rider game, so hopefully they can come back and start/finish Tempest R. It's the only game I'm waiting on.

There has been a few cases where publishers have dumped great IPs because of onecrappy entry in the series, or where publishers paid less to devs because Metacritic score was 1 point too low (Fallout:New Vegas). While I didn't think Namco would be dumb enough to kill one of their most popular game series, I still was a bit worried that they at least would cut the budget.
There is time in development cycle where concept artist and other designers have nothing to do while programmers tune the details. Usually they spend the time either designing a DLC or a sequel/new game (also the reason for the many DLC announcements at launch in general). In my opinion it would be fine to announce a new mainline game this early, especially if they want to shove Zestiria under the carpet.
Does anyone know how well the localized Hearts R sold? IIRC they said they would localize Innocence R as well if Hearts R does well enough. I've never heard of anything regarding Tempest R, but that doesn't sound impossible at all. It would give 7th chord a lot more space to work with, if they decide to completely reimagine it.

Considering how popular the Tales Series is in Japan, I wasn't too worried about it myself. As far as the names that they have trademarked now, I'm expecting them to stick with Beseria or some variation of it. Orfellia just sounds weird and Alestia's initials are already taken by Abyss. www.vgchartz.com/game/71739/tales-of-hearts/Also, since Hearts R sold around 230K copies outside of Japan, it gives me hope that they'll consider localizing Innocence R and maybe finish off the handheld trio.
