I can take simpler stuff, but not much really. For ToD2, all I needed was some base knowledge of common phrases and a little bit of katakana recognition (for items, I identified by the pictures) but the story kinda passes me by... *thank you yellow dot that tells me where to go next*
xD But it's still awesomely fun, and I hope I can get ToR when it comes out on PSP~

@the thread topic: Hate? I never heard that ToR is hated before though. I think it looks cool (I just didn't buy it yet. Will try to find a way to get it eventually - -")
@current discussion: I'm in my fourth year of studying Japanese. ^_^"

I know a little bit of each....
And I've also never herd anything about people hating this game.

IMO the fact that ToR is looked over is probably it is not localized. Just my guess. It's just similar to how some people tend to overlook ToD2. X3

But ToR is far more overlooked than ToD2...ToD2 probably gets more attention, because it's the sequel to a localized game, though.
But since it's moving to a region-free console, I think we might be able to see more fans coming along~ *sets aside money to import it*

After watching a few vids of ToR, I have this feeling if I get my hands on it, I'll love it so very much... dammit why didn't they release it to the US... oh wait... It was still around the time that Sony were still 2Dphobic...

Isn't SCEA -still- 2Dphobic? I mean, I don't see us getting ToDR any time soon...
How NIS manages to localize games is beyond me.

But NIS America says they're backed by SCEA without too much stress involved. Unless that's some other funding group that is totally irrelevant...
xD I sure hope SCEA gets over its "fear of sprites", though~

Tales of Rebirth looks really awesome, though.
I think it's just not very well known- I had only heard of it once, and vaguely at that, before joining the forums here. Tales of Destiny 2 is at least the sequel to a game that was localized, and it shares a title with the American release of Eternia.
Also, Rebirth isn't included in the Narikiri Dungeon series, which is where I became familiar with most of the Tales characters (Having only played Phantasia and Symphonia before playing ND3), and I'm sure I'm not the only one...
