Here's something that pisses me off. Critical hits in Fire Emblem.
Critical hits are annoying in any game, but it's awful in FE because more often than not, it kills your character, and permanently at that. Even worse if you're like me and won't proceed to the next chapter if anyone dies.
Also, getting hit in Mario Kart in certain situations. I, for one, love being electrocuted while jumping over chasms and plummeting to my death. I also really enjoy being in first and two millimeters from the finish line, being hit by something, and watching a gaggle of people rush by me.
Or, my all-time fav, being hit by lightning. Then being hit by a shell. And then a second shell. And then being run over by someone with a star. And then falling off the edge. All in the matter of seconds. Kick a guy while they're down, why don't you?

I hate when in RPGs you have a character on your team who doesn't fight, but is in conversation. Not like NPCs. Permanent characters. Like Chelinka in FFCC:RoF.

3/missing something important like an event, item or even a character. Oh, I hate when this happens. Of course, if I use a FAQ while playing a game, it's unlikely that I will miss important items, quests, etc. However, I generally don't like using FAQs on my first playthrough on a game, and even though I spend a lot of time making sure I've missed nothing, I find myself later in the game becoming mad because of the fact that I did miss something. (Happened to me recently on Golden Sun: Dark Dawn. Missed a few Djinn that I can't get unless I restart the game.) Then I wonder if it is even possible to get some items/quests without using a FAQ. (Zodiac spear on FFXII anyone?) Here's something that pisses me off. Critical hits in Fire Emblem. Critical hits are annoying in any game, but it's awful in FE because more often than not, it kills your character, and permanently at that. Even worse if you're like me and won't proceed to the next chapter if anyone dies. All the more reason to use characters with a high Luck stat. Critical hits make FE fun because no matter how certain you are that you have won at a certain point in a chapter, an enemy can still activate a crit off of a 1, killing your guys if you're not careful. It's exciting!

Yeah, I think in some games, it's practically impossible to get everything by yourself without a guide. Abyss, imo, is one of those games.
I completed all but two or three sidequests on Vesperia on my first and only playthrough completely by myself, though. I literally went to every single town and talked to every single NPC after every major event, and I slept in inns constantly. Not surprisingly, it took me about 110 hours to beat the game because of all the backtracking.

If Vesperia can make me rage then I'd love to see how Abyss does it...
Another thing that annoys me in a video game is unfair boss fights...I'm looking at you Agarest War. Do one thing wrong and you're pretty much dead.

Critical hits are annoying in any game It's really more like critical hits are completely negligible in any game but Fire Emblem. This is something that bothers me. Why, you could even say that I find it One of the Most Frustrating Things in Video Games! A lot of games make critical hits either so rare or so weak that they're effectively non-factors. Why would I want to increase my Critical Hit rate by 5% when that means a total increase of, oh, 00.07%? Or, when it hits, it only increases my damage by an amount that's not even worth noticing? Or the reverse: Critical hits are -more common- than regular attacks, such that they're effectively regular attacks. Fire Emblem is quite unusual because it A) has an incredibly high critical hit rate (enough that it's usually more than 1% for player characters [and as much as 30% <!> for swordmasters], which is absurdly high in comparison to other games) and B) critical hits do a whopping triple damage. In a game where a "tough" character is probably able to survive five hits, that's a hell of a lot of damage. Sure, it feels bad to get hit with one, but it's satisfying as hellllll when you hit. Borderlands does it in a cool way in that critical hits are based on skill and they do massively increased damage. Like, in the thousands sometimes, when your regular shots do hundreds. Meaning A) a skill that "raises critical hit damage by 5%" adds a whole lot of damage and B) they actually have a visceral effect in battle. Gunners in Etrian Odyssey II have a rad skill synergy between one passive skill that raises their critical hit rate and another that gives them a chance to make two attacks in one turn. Two attacks per turn naturally means you're going to see more critical hits, and if you get two critical hits in one turn, well, that's a huge difference from a regular attack! SMT games do it great by not only giving you a damage bonus, but giving you some other tangible combat benefit. P3/4 knocked down enemies, Nocturne gave you another half-turn, Strange Journey brought in same-alignment party members to add more pain, etc. Good stuff. Oh, wait, I went on a tangent on critical hits that aren't awful. Whoops.

Oh no, I'm the recipient of a Hiro rant!
In most games, they don't happen often, sure, but I wasn't talking about the frequency. Just that they're annoying when they do happen.

Well, I'm not just talking about the frequency. I'm also talking about how they -don't mean anything- when they hit you.
Oh wow I got hit for 1.5x more damage than usual! Oh woe is me. Part of this is because mundane attacks in most games don't mean anything, but that's a different mechanical issue.
Part of the reason you might find critical hits annoying in general is Pokemon, which has a very unusual critical hit system, particularly in that -any attack in the game- (that doesn't do fixed damage) can crit. Most games only have criticals on non-special, non-magical attacks.

Ike takes all the critical hits and then laughs in your face when he steals your life back.

Meaning there were quests in the game he did not complete by himself. You only reinforced Umbra's musing!

Pushover final bosses.
Look, dawg, I should have to put more effort into it than "and then my Ronin hit the boss three times in one turn and it stopped moving."
Okay, sure, you killed my Gunner for all of a single turn, but that's it. You didn't even steamroll me for using Dampen, the way the Colossus would.
