Well, while i was in a certain forum *cough*tales*cough*of*cough*forumscough* this doubt hit my head, is symphonia far from the quality of ToV? why do you think that? please lets use valid arguments and dont make this tread something "lol troll"
well i think that symphonia is better than vesperia because symphonia have a more structured plot and doesnt go to the hell on the third act like vesperia, symphonia had (to me)a better tech pattern basic-mid-advance and not the lolwut of base-altered-arcane and you dont need certain skills to make the chains, the opening was better planed than vesperia on the other hand vesperia have a nice battle sistem but sometimes is more like OMG OVERLIMIT FREE RUUUUN or TIDAL WAVE ,the skills sistem is nice either you can turn off the skills to make the game hard or have them on to exploit the combo capacity of the characater almost everyone in vesperia have a nice moveset except for repedegosh darn i love to use that dog but seriously is almost imposible do a combo or use al the techs but everyone else were fine also the non-customizable menu i miss that from ToS well this is what i can remeber for now but please tell your opinion XD if the tread had already exist let this die =)

True. Though I don't think every debate should turn into a flame war. Still, the structure of this post is making my eyes bleed as I type this.
Point: -All Tales games have exploitable Combo techs. -It's not so much that Vesperia bombed in it's third act as it is that the sidequests 'are' the Third Act. -Vesperia does exceed the raw graphical presentation of symphonia, but that's a given. -As for story and design, that's entirely subjective.
My Opinion: -I prefer Symphonia's character and world design to Vesperia. -I feel that Symphonia is more of an epic while Vesperia is a fun story. I feel more attached to Symphonia, but i can relate more to Vesperia.
Hmmm... Change the thread title and maybe have an opinion thread?

Believe me that if you play them it falls into place. The sidequests cover a more personal aspect of the characters. Something of a disjointed continuation of the themes of the first two acts.
I'll admit that I felt it was a bit rushed, but it does get the job done. Tarqaron is a bit of a long dungeon, but it brings a resolution to the themes of the game.
Yuri and Duke both decide that what they do is 'just' if they are well-intentioned and for the greater good. The heroes seek to eliminate the current power source of the world to allow humanity to continue in a new world, where as Duke wants to hit the big Reset button by destroying humanity and sending the world back to 'better times'.
I can relate to that and I like Vesperia more for that reason.
It's almost symbolic of emotional progression vs emotional regression in an ever unstable political situation. Too deep? Yeah.

Hmm I fell in love with Symphonia because it was such a different game that I was used to. All of a sudden there were characters and better dungeons that even topped Zelda (imo) so I played it around eight times. Vesperia I'm only on my second playthrough. The problem that I have with Tales games is I never 100% like all of the party characters. At least in Symphonia I had a party that i could rotate cause i liked more than three of them. Vesperia i'm still iffy with all but three of them. Tales games are still my favorite games though. For the battle system...Vesperia gets my vote. Free run helps and its hard to get back into the groove that Symphonia has. Storywise, Vesperia seems a bit rushed somtimes and there are many 'what happens' (Caer Bocram?)and all that for a lot of things. But, not all the dungeons are in caves but also in houses and abandoned cities. Also the story is rather darker and more unique then any other tales I have played. And all characters have some backdrop that you can touch upon if you want.
Symphonia was basically dungeon after dungeon almost, not many run into sidequests. Plus it had only really two things, saving Collette and saving the world, at least in Vesperia Estelle only got abducted once. I love what they did with choosing your close friend so this way you can pick your favorite character. And it was optional for character development as well. All in all, I pick Vesperia. It's better i find i enjoy it more. Symphonia is still great but Vesperia I like better.

I pick the one that's closest in terms of plot to a certain game I know.
Adephagos = Black Beast Aer = Seithr Nine Fell Arms (In the PS3) = Nine Original Nox Nyctores Hero in the Great War = Hero in the Dark War Guy on the run on the law = Other guy on the run from the law Naive little girl who'd rather not talk about boobs = Other naive little girl jealous about someone else's boobs. Judith = Boobie Lady Patty = Has Taokaka's voice
Was that enough of a reason for me?

^ lol XD
i rather pick Vesperia, i don't get THAT attached to Symphonia and i found it waaaaay overrated (no offense). I also prefer Vesperia's battle system...and the characters, i like more Vesperia characters than those in Symphonia so...yeah.

well i prefer ToS story-wise talking with duke is more like this Yuri: Duke, stop it! We found a way to beat the Adephagos without killing all of humanity! Duke: Foolishness. Humans are mindless, violent creatures who don't know what they're doing and will ultimately bring doom to the world. Only the Entelexeia are wise enough to sustain the planet, and we all should respect their wishes as the ancestral race. Yuri: Uh... they agree with our plan, actually. Duke: Insolence! Like I was just saying, the Entelexeia are too stupid to make sound decisions, and only I am allowed to decide what's good for them and for the battle sistem i played symphonia today and after that i played vesperia and for some reason abyssion just kick'dI disagree even with a tanked presea lol the battle sistem of vesperia is easier because you can runaway i mean its good because you can pull off really good combos but i felt that the game was less complex in skills things XD oh god im going to get my revenge abyssion i will

...Hmmm.
True, but it's obvious that Duke is just regressing the world like did himself. He really thought humanity was utterly insidious to the point of brainwashing the Entelexeia. He does see how ludicrous he was being at the end despite being too stubborn to do any sort of 180 turn.
Still, it's an ending based on the fact that extremities can be very harmful, but can sometimes be the only way to progression.
I disagree, in a way, but it's a good substance to build an RPG story on.
Still, the structure left the plot out to look like Swiss Cheese.

Graphic and battle system-wise, Vesperia is far superior.
The rest is subjective, but here's my opinion: They both have good and bad points, and I feel they are strangely similar when the bad is concerned. The first thing I didn't like was the removal of important elements from the main plot. In Vesperia: what happened to G&D, Duke's reasons etc. That's not something you should put in sidequests. In Symphonia: while it makes good replay value, you shouldn't have to play the game eight times to know your party characters. I completely misunderstood Zelos for one playthrough 3/4, because his serious side and real motives only show when you fight him in the Kratos path or when you view his Flanoir and Heimdall scenes in the Zelos path. That makes you finish your first playthrough with a very incomplete view on most main characters, and that's not a good thing. Another bad point with Symphonia is that some characters are completely overshadowed by others. And my main problem with Vesperia's storyline is that it dropped a lot of things half-way. And also its moral values. I know it's very personal, but I didn't really appreciate how it seemed to promote that killing people is a good thing as long as they're mean. Also, having Duke help in the end was nice and original (even though it makes him do a rather suspicious 180 - why did he fight us in the first place then?), but it kinda implies that our plan was doomed to failure. So that the villain was right. Yeah... Also, I do no think that part3 is the problem. Part3 is just the result of the story's shaky structure, but the problems already arise by part2. I guess we are less forgiving with part3 because it's the last, an thus the last with the occasion to pick up what the other parts dropped.
So yeah, in a way, Vesperia had a lot of good and original ideas, but Symphonia had a better structure and developped all its points. But it's possible to truly enjoy Vesperia's story, as long as you absorb it as it goes and don't try to think too much about it.
Character-wise, I love most of them. The few issues with development comes from the system or the story itself, so I don't consider the characters themselves at fault for that.

I like Vesperia better than Symphonia, but I like Eternia the best still. i love when reid dies and scream lol Alex(i0n) if only vesperia had taken the duke "lolcrazy" moment as you said at least we would have had a deep emotional villian and not just a crazy guy who doesnt listen to anybody Yutalia its more than obvious that the vesperia graphics are on a league far away from ToS lol but everyone else is fine i think that raven was a zelos fail dont get me wrong i like raven and its way more hot than zelos lol but his betrayal thing was like hey guys i almost kill you but somehow i got out of baction without a scratch sooo im going to continue with the journey for no reason ok? i know that yuri said "dont go dying your life belongs to brave lolsperia but it would have been better if they really did a effort to know why and how that's not even in any sidequest lol

I, personally, much prefer Vesperia. Symphonia is possibly my second or third favorite, (debating between that and Legendia), but Vesperia is the definite first.
Honestly I think the entire concept of blastia and aer is just fascinating. The cities are also very interesting, and I absolutely love the Empire-Guild dynamics. The guilds themselves are awesome as well. Vesperia has unexpected, complex and difficult dungeons, but they're all enjoyable to some degree.
I'm not going to bring graphics into this, obviously, because that's just not fair and it doesn't really effect my opinion all that much either way. The battle system does, but once more, not a fair contest.
Vesperia's OST is more enjoyable to me, though I doubt a lot of people will agree, more of the songs just stick with me and make the moments.
Tarqaron. I loved Tarqaron to pieces, and I think its length was appropriate. When I got to the end of Tarqaron, before those giant stairs, I felt like I had really worked for something, accomplished something. Did I have the same feeling before I fought Mithos, as I did when I was finally about to fight Duke? No. Not at all.
Then there's the characters. Yuri is by far the most original Tales hero, I would say. He's realistic. I can relate to Yuri, his frustration with Flynn, his guilt, his sense of inferiority, confusion... it's all very tangible and real. I don't agree that Yuri has little to no character development, I think his is just hidden in the sub-text, rather than in your face. I love Estelle, as well. I actually love her for the same reason I love Colette, they're both willing to die for people. Repede, in my opinion, is an awesome addition to the party. His silent support for Yuri was really heartwarming to me, as I used to have a dog myself, and I know how comforting they can be. Karol is wonderful to me, the fact that he basically has his own battle just to mature, to learn to protect... it terrified me, fighting alone, but I wanted to win so badly, for Karol's honor, really. It was a big motivator, I felt really proud of myself and him after I won. Rita is my favorite of the cast, I admire her intelligence and determination a lot. I think she's pretty amazing. Rita is, essentially, the person who really saves the world, it's all thanks to her. Her personal journey, as well, learning how to care and interact with people, I found very engaging to watch. I felt terrible for her, but I was really happy when she accepted that Brave Vesperia's members were friends to her. Raven impresses the hell out of me, that he can be that strong, play both sides, all of that... and I have never cried as hard because of a boss battle before the Schwann fight. I was bawling. I cry every time, actually. I was frustrated the entire game with Judith, until I learned why she was doing what she was, and then I gained a lot of respect for her strength. Even more so when you do the sidequest to discover her personal involvement.
Vesperia is the only video game I've played to date (and trust me there's a lot) that I can honestly say I love the entire cast. I adore Zagi, and I feel so horrid for him. I cried a bit in Tarqaron when you fight him, as well. I sobbed my eyes out for the Yeager battle, and I cried when I did the sidequest to fight Gauche and Droite, because I felt so terrible that I had taken Yeager from them. I respect Duke a lot for his actions, and I was really thankful throughout the game that he kept saving me! Alexei doesn't have anything admirable about him, really, but I love him for his utter evilness. Cumore... I don't need to explain that. I'll even admit to caring about Flynn, though he still annoys the hell out of me.
Vesperia just touched me personally a lot more than Symphonia did. I felt like a member of Brave Vesperia, and because Vesperia's plot wasn't a very cliche, save-the-world one, I felt like I had actually accomplished something in the end, rather than, "oh, I beat another RPG by saving the world! Yay!" Symphonia disappointed me, in that respect. Vesperia didn't.
/walloftext
Kudos to anyone who reads that all, really. <3
